The volunteers provide foster homes until the cats are ready for adoption, as in having the necessary shots, have been spayed/neutered, etc. After that, they are taken to a nice glassed in housing area at PetSmart on Hwy 90 and North Garland Road in Garland. Every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, volunteers host an Adoption Open House of sorts being on hand to greet the public, answer any questions, and hopefully, adopt some of their cats out to lucky new pet owners. "We want people to love them as much as we do," said director, Angela Corley (pictured left with Mandy Dunlap on the right who is holding Mr. Bojangles). "We get attached to them after fostering them A small piece of our heart goes out with each one that is adopted. But we're also glad to find our cats a home." Last weekend the group adopted out eight cats to new homes, which is great. Sadly, there are many more out there still needing to be rescued. "Our volunteers will go all over to help save a cat," said Angela. "We'll do whatever it takes to rescue one and to even match owners up with specific breeds. If someone emails me looking for a Siamese cat and I don't have one, I'll email all of the other cat rescue groups to help find that person one. We all work together for the welfare of all cats." Here's to the great volunteers at New Beginnings Cat Rescue, and to the nice folks at PetSmart who provide supplies and housing for the felines! |
