Nancy Brinker's Race
Nancy Brinker promised her sister, Susan G. Komen (both pictured to the left) who was dying from breast cancer, that she would do whatever it would take to end the disease. I've been very fortunate to get to meet and interview Nancy in the past including on this moment with her sister. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was founded on this promise in 1982.
"When someone is going through breast cancer you feel powerless in being able to help them," she told me. "This was something that I could do as a promise to my sister and to help other women who are going through what she did in order to find a way to put an end to this disease." Due to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, the nonprofit organization has raised over $1 billion in funds worldwide in its fight against breast cancer. Go to http://www.komen-dallas.org/ to see how you can be a part of the upcoming race taking place on Saturday, October 20th. Form a team, donate to one, or even buy some of the products that benefit the organization's race for a cure. Your efforts can make a difference!
Here's a Tiki Cocktail toast to Nancy Brinker, who with one promise has changed the world in a significant way! I'm honored to know her and consider her an inspiration in my life. I want to share even more of her story with each of you. Stay tuned for an up to date interview with Nancy where she'll share her latest projects, her sources of inspiration, and advice to women on achieving their dreams.
