Texans quarterback David Carr spent most of the second
half vs the Titans watching the action.
He had a stunned look in his eyes. We've seen it before,
usually when he's getting sacked .
But on Sunday, it was coach Gary Kubiak doing the sacking,
benching Carr in favor of backup Sage Rosenfels.

Bonzi Wells could finally make his debute tonight when
the Rockets play their final preseason game .
It won't mean much in terms of what he's going to get out of the playing time.
Bonzi is a veteran. He won't learn anything new by playing in a meaningless
preseason game.
But Rocket fans really need to see him out there.
They need to see him in Rocket's red , wearing the uniform,
reaffirming the fact that he will play a key role on this team.

Anyone who has even a passing relationship with
Vince Young understands he's all about Texas.
He gave up the bikinis on South Beach , turning down Miami
to play for the Longhorns .
Anything Houston is on his "A list" , Rockets , Astros, and Beyonce.
Of course Beyonce makes the list strictly on musical talent alone,
afterall V.Y. is engaged.
So anyone who believes he won't try to stick it to his hometown team
is being a little naive .

There were many stars in the Texans 27-to-7 victory over
the Jaguars. You can make a case for David Carr, certainly
Andre Johnson's name comes to mind. What about the offensive line ?
Hey , the entire defensive unit played great.
But my vote goes to runnng backs Wali Lundy and
Samkon Gado, for giving the Texans their first
real running attack of the season.

If the Texans were a ship sailing the high seas they would be
tapping out an SOS right about now, hoping some brave soul
would toss them a life preserver.
They are not drowning yet, but it seemed like it after
dropping a 34-to-6 decision to the Cowboys at Texas Stadium.
Truth be told, I didn't expect them to win the game, but I did think
they would score at least one touchdown.

If Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione was writing a letter
to Aggie fans , he would borrow from Mark Twain and say
something like ,"the reports of my demise were greatly exaggerated."
For the first time in 6 tries , the Aggies knocked off a ranked
opponent at home under coach Fran's regime.
Which should take him off the hotseat with fans at least for a while .

As the Texans prepare to meet the Cowboys they must ask themselves,
is this a good time to face the boys from "Big D".
One look at the Dallas, Philadelphia game tape and the Texans
have a lot to be encouraged about.
I mean, no one does a better Statue of Liberty impersonation
than Drew Bledsoe. Old "wooden legs" was sacked so much
by the Eagles he should have been carring groceries .

So the Texans didn't draft Reggie , Vince, or Matt Leinart,
we won't know if that was the right move for some time.
What I do know is , watching the 3 rookies on Sunday was
like the anticipation associated with a good book, a good meal,
maybe even a good kiss. Notice I said maybe a good kiss.

In the case of Stratford quarterback Andrew Luck, its to easy
to attritbute all of his sucess to a case of like father, like son.
Sure his pop is former N.F.L. Oilers quarterback Oliver Luck,
but Andrew wasn't born until after Oillie finished his 5 years with the Oilers.
I talked with both father and son this week and the visit
was just as much a lesson in parenting , as it was football related.
