OU's Bradford needs to leave OU

I don't USUALLY root for any specific player, especially if they are from a team that I have never really had any attachment to. But in the case of Oklahoma stars Jermaine Gresham and Sam Bradford, thats exactly what's happened.

It's funny how things work out. For years, students have been encourgaed to finish their degrees and make sure they have firm education foundation, before taking the money of the pros. That, and the hopes of winning a National Championship, were reasons enough for them to come back. But 2009 has turned out to be nothing what they expected.

Before the season even started, Gresham, who was predicted to be one of the best tight ends in the country LAST year, had to have season ending surgery on his knee. He elected to shut it down and concentrate on the NFL Draft. And as tough as that was, the choice was relatively simple for him. He is a senior so hanging them up was the logical thing.

Now that Bradford is sidelined again because of his shoulder, he does have two choices. Hang them up and COME BACK for his senior year...or have season ending surgery and leave for the NFL. At this point, the choice is easy. He needs to leave OU.

Coming back was admirable, but now that he has been injured a second time, season ending surgery and jumping to the draft is a must. Sure, he might not be picked in the Top 5 or maybe even the Top 10. But you can't afford another year of playing football WITH a hurt shoulder and not making ANY money. Remember, just because you don't end up in the Top 10, doesn't mean you can't make up the lost money later on. Case in point, Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers Qb was taken #18 and since has not only won two Super Bowls, but has gotten a huge contract extension.

So, they say everything happens for a reason. In fact, Sam has said the same thing. So that must be whats in store for him. A lower draft spot, but a chance to win with a contender and the possiblity of making up the money later is definitely more appealing than coming back a risking more injury WITHOUT playing in the NFL.
