The Rice Owls have announced their 2009 football schedule ...and fresh off their Texas Bowl win ....the Owls have a pretty aggressive schedule. after opening on the road at UAB ...a Conference USA game ...... they then play a pair of Big-12 teams on the road ...back to back. First Texas Tech ...and then Oklahoma State. Now ...in the past ...the Owls also scheduled big-time early season opponents .....but almost never were they given a chance to win. (In the past ...they've scheduled teams like Ohio State, Florida State, UCLA & Oklahoma for the big pay day for the athletic department.) Now though .... they'll be more optimistic about their chances. Texas Tech will still be good ....but this could be a down year ...coming off their best season ever in '08. Oklahoma State will be challenge ...but they're not playing Oklahoma...like they have in the past..when Rice was really down. 3rd year coach David Bailff is coming off two excellent recruiting years ...and the Owls should be in the Conf. USA title hunt again.

Now, here's the interesting part for local college fans ...... UH also plays Texas Tech and Oklahoma State in non-conference schedule. The biggest difference is ...Tech will play at Robertson. I still say both Rice and UH will be in the Conf. USA title hunt. The winner may be decided on the final day of the regular season .... when The Owls play the Cougars at Robertson Stadium.

And a Dynamo note ....
If the Houston Dynamo make the MLS Cup this year .....they'll play for the Cup in Seattle. The game will be the Sunday night, November 22nd.
The Dynamo and defending champion Columbus have to be the early favorites to get there.
