February 2009 ArchivesHe's still sporting the same infectious smile he had at Jones High School, and with the U.T. Longhorns. But there was something different about Daniel Gibson at the shoot around before the Rockets and Cavaliers game. It was the huge star with the letter H, etched into the side of his head. Gibson was taking Texas pride to a whole new level. The Cavaliers guard said, "Stars are really big in Texas." "They are everywhere, the Dallas Stars, stars on the hockey team, the Astros, everyone (here) likes stars so I put it there to show that. According to Gibson, the haircut is now the latest rage in Cle... I laughed when I was working out last week and the national observers of the NBA were saying things like,"The Rockets are going nowhere ..with Tracy McGrady out with injury and veteran point guard Rafer Alston heading to Orlando." Outsiders didn't realize just how anxious this team was to show everyone they could still make a strong playoff run. After dominating play for most of the match ... the Dynamo was tied last night 1 to 1 by Atlante' of Cancun. Ryan Kelley is an 18 year old senior at The Woodlands High School. He's been blessed with rugged good looks and a wicked driver. Think Robert Redford in "The Natural", with a 6-iron instead of a bat. I always enjoy going to Rockets practice. Today I was greeted by Dikembe Mutombo as he was leaving the floor, "My friend he said, where have you been?" "you don't come out as much as you used to". He says he takes the responsibility ...and he apologizes to everyone in baseball and in the U.S., his family and his fans. Mark Tuohey ....an attorney from Vinson and Elkins Washington, D.C. office ...represented Tejada in court this morning ....he is the first to speak. ...Astros shortstop, Miguel Tejada, along with his attorney, Mark Tuohey ....are standing by at this point. We were just told ...the ground rules .... It looks like we're goinig to have a full-house ....for the Tejada news conference ...coming up at 5pm Central time at Minute Maid Park. Head coach Dominic Kinnear told me afterwards that he didn't know, "...how the guys would come out." But afer watching only a few minutes ....... he had to have been relieved ...as the Dynamo blasted past FC Dallas in their pre-season opener. ... |
