January 2009 ArchivesBut it's just too easy to pick the Steelers ....that's why I'm going with the Cardinals on Sunday. ...When you watch #92 .... defensive end Bertrand Berry ... play for the Cardinals Sunday ....imagine if you will, what he might look like in a Texans uniform. Sure it seems like a long shot but ........... ... The Dynamo re-signed veteran defender Bobby Boswell today ....which I believe will help pave the way for another title run. ...News item: A lawyer who represented Roger Clemens last Isn't it time for the Justice Department to drop its investigation into whether or not Roger Clemens lied to Congress when he testified last year. The hearing was political grandstanding then, and now a y... Every time I go to Strake Jesuit, I'm reminded of the 12 years I spent in Catholic School. The uniforms, the discipline, the quality education. I even have memories of Sister John Bosco and her pal "Mr. Ruler." "Ouch !" But I also remember the commitment in the classroom bleeding over to the athletic field. The same thing is happening at Strake Jesuit. The basketball team is now ranked no. 1 in Texas after rolling to a perfect 24-and 0 record. Last season the Crusaders won their district, but were knocked out of the playoffs in the second round. After 17 seasons in the N.B.A., Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo is the elder statesman of the league. But he also knows his way around the political landscape in Washington. Because of his fund raising efforts with his Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, the 7 foot 2 center is used to rubbing shoulders with Washington's elite. But everytime I call him a politician, he gives me the finger shake and says, Chavez High School will have the largest contingent of runners of any area school this weekend at the Houston Marathon. The Lobos principal will be leading the way .... at least at the start. ...Man, I really love to listen to talk radio. I don't care if its Rush Limbaugh, Jim Rome, Air America, whatever. Say what you will about the quality of the callers and their silly trade proposals, it does provoke a discussion. Former Astros pitcher Dave Roberts is dead at the age of 64. He died of cancer. Cy-Ridge H.S. quarterback Russell Shepard .... was first discovered by Rams head coach Gary Theibaud when Russell was playing at an area junior high school. Theibaud and one of his assistants had heard there was a pretty good quarterback at the school ...so they went over to watch a game........ ...If you get a chance ....I urge you to look for the story we did on Aldine-Nimitz H.S. center Brittney Griner ..elsewhere here on khou.com. She's 6-8 ... moves like she's closer to 5-8....and she's a team oriented player. ...When's the last time .... Rice University's football team got daily coverage on the local TV stations and local newspaper?? Oh ..that's right ... this week and last. U.H. athletic director Dave Maggard must be livid. ... |
