Rice is in total control of this game.
Western Michigan may score ....but I think the Owls have this one. It looks like the Owls will notch their first bowl win since 1954.

The Owls are inside the WMU 30 and moving ....
The Owls have 330 yards of offense .......WMU has only 112 so far.

Clement TD pass to James Casey ...for 45 yards and it looked like he took it away from Dillard. Hey whatever works ...because Clement was under pressure ...I think Casey was just looking for an open spot ....along with Dillard ...they wound up in the same spot ...either could have caught it ...Casey didn't see Jarett ..and he snagged it and went into the endzone.
Rice now leads 24 to 0.

Rice safety Andrew Sendejo intercepts Tiller and then gets flipped on his head ...ut he's up and talking on the sideline. What a play ...and what a fall after going airborne to catch that ball. Rice takes over at their own 41 ....but then Sendejo is flagged for mouthing off to the WMU players ...and Rice gets flagged 15 yards. Not a smart play!!

Again Rice leads 17-0. I really think the New Orleans Bowl 2 seasons ago ...would have been similiar to this ...had Chase Clement been able to play.

Dicky Maegle was the star of that game ..... but Rice beat Alabama in that game 28 to 6.
Rice back on offense ...with 13 minutes left in the first half .....Owls lead 10-0.
James Casey runs the quarterback spot on 3rd and one ...and gets several yards.
Fresh set of downs ...and after not getting anything on 1st down ...
Clement passes to Casey for a gain of 8.
3rd and 2 .... Clement can't get the snap off ...because his running back flinches ...and illegal procedure is calleld.

Western Michigan beat Illinois of the Big-10 this year ...and Buffalo ...the team that won their conference. Rice's only losses came to ranked teams ....Texas, Vanderbilt during the Hurricane weekend ...and Tulsa.

TThe Owls try an end around ...fake ..and then pass from Jarrett Dillard to Chase Clement ...who was wide open ...but Dillard muffed the pass ..and it falls incomplete.
Nice call ....they just didn't execute it.
Clark Fangmeier kicks a 30 yard field goal. Rice leads 10-0 with :22 left in the 1st quarter. Rice had a great opportunity to score a touchdown go by the boards ..and it could come back to haunt them ....as WMU has a very potent offense.

The coaches must be seeing something ...where they think they can run on the Broncos ...but the first two plays in this series ...get only two total yards.

Chase Clement gave a great play fake to THOR ....James Casey ...and Clement goes off left tackle 26 yards for the score. The Bronco defenders finally caught up with him at the 2 yard line ...but he plowed over the defensive backs ..and scored. The PAT makes it 7-0 Rice with 5:21 left in the frst quarter. That scoring drive ...on Rice's 2nd possession of hte game ...covered 67 yards ...in 6 plays and took 2:36 off the clock.
Great call by the Rice coaching staff!!

The Owls haven't won a bowl game since 1949 ... but this is their 2nd post-season appearance in the past 3 seasons ...and Rice fans can live with that kind of success.
Western Michigan on the other hand ...went to the International Bowl just last year .... but the Broncos have never won a bowl game in their school's history.
Western Michigan coach Bill Cubit said it best earlier this month,"We're from the MAC (conference) ... this is as good as it gets!!
Chase Clement makes a nice scramble on 1st and 15 ....to the WMU 47.

What are the refs doing here??
Schaub throws a pass ...and no whistle blows and the Bears return the ball into the endzone ...before the referee Carl Cheffers tells everyone ....it's actually an incomplete pass. But there was intentional grounding on the field. It's 3rd and 34 .....Geez...
Slaton back in the game ....carries forward ...but the Texans have to punt again ....that possession was ugly.

Let's see what the defense can do against this pop-gun Bears offense.
I call it pop gun ....because they are certainly not high powered ....but they can score points in bunches. I had Kyle Orton on my fantasy team for awhile this season ......so I know all about how hit or miss this offense can be.

When you consider the present financial situation of the big three automakers, the 150 jobs the N.F.L. is cutting doesn't really seem like much. Unless your job is one of the 150 being cut. Is it a cost cutting move by the league?
