November 2008 ArchivesPresident-elect Barack Obama is right; we need a college football playoff period. While we hope he can use his "bully pulpit" to influence the powers that be, but with a new influx of cash coming from Disney, there's little chance the BCS will be broken up anytime soon. Let's look at th... Did I just hear that correctly?? We as Texans are proud of our products our work ethic and of course ... our football. So ... why are so many Texans pulling for a team that resides on the other side of the Red River?? ...Cy-Woods High School's rapid rise to the 2nd round of the playoffs ... is surprising to the casual observers .... but the fact is .....many people in the Cy-Fair ISD area ..... figured the Wildcats would be on the prowl this season. Their JV squad lost only once the past two seasons ... ...Almost simultaneously .... world famous gymanstics coach Bela Karolyi ... has been nominated for office in his native Romania ...and charged with physically abusing a former Olympic athlete from there. Wow! Those Romanians sure know how to make life interesting!! In the wake of the Houston Tulsa game Saturday night, the loudest cheers heard may not have been at Robertson Stadium. They may have been about 10 minutes from there, over at Rice University. Gloating may be an evil, but it certainly feels good. You see a year ago Tulsa coach Todd Graham played Rice, like a bass drum, and beat it back to Oklahoma faster than a Sooner on a land grab. Graham coached the Owls for one year leading them to their first bowl game in 45 seasons. He brought back winning football to a campus which was competitive in the 60's and earned a fat new contract. So good the deal was, Gr... It is interesting to read the wires today. There is all kind of talk about late hits in the NFL costing defensive players all kinds of money. And from the college ranks an apology from UH Defensive End Philip Hunt on his shot that knocked Tulane Quarterback Joe Kemp out of Saturday's game. No question football at times is a brutal sport. Some of the pictures we've been showing on Channel 11 lately have been ugly. Vikings Defensive End Jared Allen says he didn't mean to nail Texans Quarterback Matt Schaub with not one but two shots to the knee. Give Schaub credit, he tried to play through the pain, but ... Texans lose ugly .....41 to 13 to the Baltimore Ravens ...and any hopes for a .500 season ....could be out the window. The Ravens split their quarterback Joe Flacco out .... and Troy Smith played quarterback hitting Heap for the score. It's a blowout officially. Ravens lead 41 to 13. For the 3rd time today .... Rosenfels has been intercepted ..and it's the 2nd time by Ray Lewis ... They can't move it ...so Matt Turk comes on to punt. Terrance Copper is being helped off the field now ....but he was shaken up on the Ravens kickoff. Texans take over at their own 15 yard line. Texans have a lot of work to do. The Ravens passed for a two point conversion after that touchdown. Ravens are close to scoring .... again. Texans can't seem to catch a break ...but their defense has been porous all day long ..... again. Texans called for holding .....bad call .... Sage Rosenfels finds Kevin Walter on a long crossing pass play that Walter runs in for the touchdown .....!!!! Stover's field goal attempt was short and to the left ... .no good!! Fred Bennett may have gotten a piece of it .....I couldn't really see it. Or a turnover ...... Sage gets picked off .... as his arm is hit on a throw across the middle. The only one close to the pass was Lewis ....and the Ravens have a chance to put this game on ice. baotimore already leads 19 to 6 .... a touchdown here .... and the Texans would be in deep, deep trouble. 5:33 left in the 3rd. Rosenfels got 9 yards on first down ... on a pass completion to Vonte leach ....and then they convert for the first down ... on an Ahman Green run. Willis McGahee pounds it in from the 1 yard line ...and the Ravens go up ... 19 to 6. Pass interference ...gives the Ravens 1st and goal at the one. Yikes!! Ravens have the ball after receiving the kickoff ....1st and ten ..already for Ravens in Texans territory. ravens lead 12-6 ...we are just underway in the 3rd qtr. Brown hits his 2nd field goal of the game. His 48 yarder ....makes it 12 to 6 Ravens at halftime. Still can't believe they didn't take a timeout earlier in this drive. But for some reason .... they didn't take timeout with 3 in their pocket ...and less than 50 seconds left on the clock. They let 15 seconds ..at least ...just slip away. Ravens can't get any closer ....but Matt Stover kicks a 54 yard field goal ...and the Ravens up their lead to 12-3 ... with 1:01 left in the first half. Ravens moving the ball at will .....two completions to Heap the tight end ....gives the Ravens 1st and 10 at the Houston 39 yard line. A holding call in the endzone ...gives Baltimore a safety and 2 points. Ravens punt from their own 29 ..... Kevin Bentley ....with a big sack ...on Flacco ...15 yard loss!!! Kris Brown hits a 25 yard field goal ...and the lead has been cut to 7-3. 6:48 left in the first half ......Texans have had two nice drives ...and have only 3 points to show for it. After a Steve Slaton touchdown was called back due to offensive holding on Owens Daniels ....Sage Rosenfels hooks up with Jacoby Jones on a 46 yard pass inside the Baltimore 10 .....to put the Texans in position. ...End of 1st quarter ....Ravens with the ball and the lead .... 7-0. Sage is intercepted in the endzone ....by Haloti Ngata ....a Baltimore defensive tackle. That's a bad mistake. Ravens take over at their own 20 on the touchback. ...David Anderson with a great catch gets it closer..... Can they do it?? The Texans have reached midfield. This is their 3rd possession of the day ....and they finally have a first down . 4:30 left in the first qtr .....and the Texans are moving. Ryan Moats returns to the Texans 33 yd line. ...QB Joe Flacco just conncted on a deep pass play to Yamon Figurs to make it 7-0 with the extra point. 7:05 left in the first. Derrick Mason was undercut by Texans defensive back Jacques Reeves ...on an incomplete pass ....and hit the ground with the point of his left shoulder. It looks from here like he dislocated it. He's off the field now. Ravens 2nd and 15 at the Texans 45. Still filtering in. Texans fans are some of the league's' worst when it comes to getting to their seats before the start of a game. Yes.... we have great taligaters ....but once again ...the greatest tailgate teams .... also have their fans show up inside the stadium before kickoff. Baltimore on the move .....the Ravens have just recorded the initial first down of the game. It's another 3 and out .....two running plays and another bad pas on 3rd down. Earl Cochran gets the sack ......for the loss ...forcing Ravens to punt. Texans will take over at their own 20 after the punt. Texans can't do anything else with it ...and Matt Turk punts the ball away to Baltimore ....Ravens first possession will begin at their own 32. Texans win the coin toss ....receive the opening kickoff ...and on first down ....Sage Rosenfels completes an 8 yard pass to Kevin Walter .... At least they say they are. Last year's first draft pick ..Amobi Okoye will not play today due to a high ankle sprain. Sage Rosenfels will start at quarterback against the best defense in the NFL. we are about 4 minutes away from the opening kickoff. Texans decked out in "Liberty White" uniforms today ...white jerseys and white pants. ...Baseball commissioner Bud Selig was in town Friday to speak before a teachers' convention .... but he did take time to answer a few of my questions. And no ... he doesn't think he hurt the Astros playoff chances by making them play the Cubs in Milwaukee. ...As America was focused on the election, one of the stories which "slipped through the cracks," was the interview fallen track star Marion Jones granted Oprah Winfrey last week. It was billed as the first time Jones talked since leaving federal custody for lying to investigators about her steroid use. It was a year ago Jones, in tears, finally admitted that she lied about her preparations for the summer games in 2000. She won five medals in Australia and held the title, the greatest female athlete in the world. But as we would learn later, all of that was in fact a lie. She had taken performance enhancin... Head coach Gary Kubiak announced today after practice that 2nd year linebacker, Zac Diles, broke his left tibia today at practice. Kubiak says it was a freak accident that broke Diles' left leg. Kubiak says the team was running through ... at half speed ... a punting drill. Wow ...what else is going to go wrong ??? Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has his team 3 & 5 on the season ... and that's not where he wanted this team to be at the season's halfway point. If he wants to make the playoffs .... his team will have to win at least 7 of the next 8 games. What are the odds?? ... |
