Another honor for Memorial's Whitsett

5:13 PM Thu, Oct 30, 2008 |
Butch Alsandor

Memorial's Cory Whitsett is only 16 years old, but in golf years he could be 36. Whitsett plays with the savy of a tested veteran. I interviewed him last year at the A.J.G.A. golf event at Redstone, and the first thing I notice was this guy is cool.

I've seen some poker faces before, but this guy has a good one. It didn't matter what questions we threw at him his expression never changed. Besides "God-given" talent,
he appears to be blessed with the ability to stay calm under pressure and in golf that is a vauable skill. A skill that brought him first team Rolex Junior All-America honors...

Fallen UH Receiver Patrick Edwards is in good hands

6:13 PM Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |
Carleton Cole

One of the benefits of working at Channel 11 is meeting and working with many quality people. Over the years I have met some fascinating folks, and I am not talking about the rich and powerful.
Years ago I had the pleasure of traveling with both the Houston Oilers, and the football team at the University of Houston. On both occasions I would often ride on the plane with Walter Lowe, M.D. the orthopedic surgeon who often is charged with mending the fallen players. The word professional doesn't do him justice.
When I watched in horror the injury to UH receiver Patrick Edwards during the Marshall ...

Gary Kubiak News Conference

3:32 PM Mon, Oct 27, 2008 |
Matt Musil

The news conference began with the McNair Foundation presenting a check for $30,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Kubiak's first question ....concerns the Vikings.
He says they run the ball as well as anyone in football.
Is Peterson the best?
If he's not ...he's right up there ...according to Kubiak.
"We have our work cut out for us."
"Special teams are very good also ..and it's a tough place to play."
What does it say about this team starting 0&4 and now they've won 3 straight.??
"It tells you about the character of the team ...they've been rewarded but now we ...

Shell Oil president, Marvin Odum, announced today that the charities benefitting from the Shell Houston Open PGA event received $2,395,000 for 2008.

Clock running down ....

5:44 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

The Texans have done it.
They've won 3 straight games in a single season for the first time ever. A couple of weeks ago ....most people would have thought that wasn't possible ...at least this season.
But things have turned around. The improved play by the offense led by qb Matt Schaub ....has gotten this team back on track. The Texans win 35 to 6 ..and are now 3 and 4 on the season.
I'll have more on tonight's game on 11 News at 10. Butch Alsandor will have game highlights and I'll have a sidebar story from the game. See you on TV.

Texans Score Again ....

5:24 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

As Dandy Don Meredith would sing on Monday Night Football,"Turn out the lights ....the party 's over...."

The Texans just ended this party for the Bengals ...as Steve Slaton ran 20 yards for another score ...it's 35 to 6 Texans with 9:54 left in the game.

...

Texans record 66th straight sellout!!

5:18 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Only trouble is ...the stadium is only half full .....
That's pathetic.
I don't care if the Bengals are winless and the home team has only won twice ....fans clamored for an NFL team for several years after Bud Adams took the Oilers to Tennessee ....and now .....the fans forget how hard it was to get a franchise back here.

If you want to be taken seriously as a quality NFL city .....you must show up for the games.
Period. Until the fans do that .....they won't be taken seriously.

Let me tell you this ....the Browns are not a good football team. But after they lost their fran...

Texans On the move ...

5:08 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Ahman green horse collared ...illegally ....and he's out of the game.
complaining of a hip adductor strain ...that's my guess as I watched him talk to the trainers. It's inside of his left leg ....a groin injury will probably be the injury report.
In the meantime ..the Texans offense just keeps grinding along .....2nd and 9 at the Cincy 28.
11:19 left in the 4th qtr .... 28 to 6 Texans ...

...

Texans Force turnover!!

5:06 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

mario Williams sacks ryan fitzpatrick and foreces fumbble ...Amobe Akoye recovers at the 14 yard line .....7th sack of the season for mario.
1:55 left in the 3rd quarter.

...

Texans Score Again!!!!

4:56 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

wow .....Schaub throws to Walter ..and after Kevin makes the catch ....he gets up ..the Cincy defender thought that he had touched him while he was down ... but the replays show he actually touched him after he got back on his feet. This is not 2-hand touch ...this is tackle football ....and Walter goes 39 yards to complete the scoring pass play.
Texans up their lead to 28 to 6..with 6:30 left in the 3rd.

...

Bengals Can't move it ....

4:49 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Cincy punts and Texans get the ball at their own 47 yard line ... great field position.
Texans lead 21 to 6 with 7:51 left in 3rd.

...

Touchdown Texans!!

4:41 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub to Walter on the right side ..and Kevin bulls his way into the endzone.
21 to 6 Texans with the extra point .... 9:19 to go in the 3rd quarter.
Nice drive ...of 84 yards ...nice mix of the pass and run.

...

Texans Get 2nd half kickoff ....

4:37 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

And they're off running and passing downfield .....1st and ten ..at the 25 of Cincy.
Now the Texans are moving in .....2nd and 6 from the 7 yard line ...

...

texans pass incomplete ......

4:20 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub throws incomplete into the endzone ...and the half is over.
Texans 14 ... Bengals 6.
After a shaky start the Texans offense bounced back ...and the defense acquited itself well yielding only 2 field goals.
Texans will receive the 2nd half kickoff.

...

Texans Moving Downfield ....

4:17 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Texans have called timeout ..with:10 sec left in the half ......
They have the ball at the Cincy 49 yard line.
completion to Slaton ...:04 left ...at the Cincy 43 yard line....

...

Bengals Field Goal .....Attempt

4:12 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Is good!!! 32 yard field goal .....is good by Shayne Graham.
it's 14-6 Texans ....with less than a minute left in the half.

...

Cedric Benson Looks Good running the ball....

4:06 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Bengals running back Cedric Benson ..the former UT standout ... has looked good running the ball thus far today. He looks very quick to the hole ...and then into it. Much better than he has looked in the NFL before this.
Just an observation. Timeout on the field ...called by the Bengals.
There's 1:02 left in the first half ...and the Bengals are on the Texans 15 yard line .....
They want to score here in the worst way ....while the Texans are trying to keep them out of the endzone this half. Right now is 14-3 Texans. It's 2nd down .. with 2 yards to go.

...

That's the 3rd time .......

4:02 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

The Texans have had a 15 play drive for a score. 3 times now....
Texans up 14 to 3 with 3 minutes left in the first half.
Once again Carson Palmer is out today ......Fitzpatrick is playing in his place.
Cedric Benson is running the ball well for the
Bengals thus far. He was signed a few weeks ago .....when injury problems mounted for Cincinnati. Benson is a talented athlete if he can just get his act together off the field ... maybe he'll be able to make it in this league.

That's 2-minute warning.

...

Texans Score Again

3:59 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Matt Schaub throws 6 yards to David Anderson for a touchdown!!!
The Kris
Brown extra point makes it 14-3 Texans. ...
That was a 91 yard ...15 play drive ..that lasted 9:22.
That was a great drive!!

...

Texans On the Move.....

3:51 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub completes another pass to Andre Johnson ...for another Houston first down.
1st and 10 tecans on the 36 yard line of Cincinnati.

...

Texans On the move ....

3:48 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Reserve David Anderson gets a catch ....good for a Texans first down. at their own 35.
Schaub just threw a dart to the outside ...to
Ahman Green ...after it looked like Matt would run. Nice play. Green got ripped though on the tackle.
2nd and 5.
Green now rumbles forward to the Cincy 48 yard line ..for an 11 yard gain. Impressive.

...

Bengals Unable to Score .....

3:45 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

On their first possession of the 2nd quarter ...Bengals can't move it ....
they punt and Texans take over ...1st and 10 at their own 9 yard line ....
This is Houston's 2nd possession of the game ........
The last drive for the Texans started with a penalty and ended with a penalty .....definately not the start they wanted. Maybe instead of starting fast and finishing slow like last week ...they'll start slow and finish strong!!
let's see ......

...

Texans Can't score ......

3:37 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

The Texans first possession stalled out at midfield ....and had to punt.
Now the Bengals are coming back upfield.
It's funny hearing the press-box announcer saying "catch by Ocho Cinco" after every catch by Chad (formerly Johnson) Ocho Cinco. He still wears C. Johnson on the back of his jersey .....because Reebok needed more advance noticed to change a player's jersey before the start of a season. Next year it'll be changed to Ocho Cinco.
How ridiculous is that??
It's nearly as bad as that stupid XFL league ..when they allowed a player to use "HE HATE ME" on the back of his jersey.
...

Bengals Score ....

3:25 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Shayne Graham's field goal from 43 yards out makes it 7-3 Texans .
6:17 left in the 1st quarter. the Texans defense has deflected two passes already by Cincy quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Texans get the ball for the first time today on offense ....with 6:17 left in 1st.

...

Bengals Back On the Move...

3:20 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Cincinnati has the ball inside the texans 30 yard line .....
7:12 left in the first quarter. ..
Bengals in their tiger striped orange helmets and white jerseys and black pants...
43 yard field goal ...is good .......
7-3 texans .....Shayne Graham is the kicker.

...

Jacoby Jones now has 2 TD's on Punt returns

3:13 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Wow ....Jones went and hungged his mom again today.
The worst thing is ...half the stands are empty . What a joke!!
Where are the fans??
I know people pride themselves in being great "tailgaters" ...but c'mon ...show up for the game!!! This is embarassing.

...

Jacoby Jones /TD

3:10 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Jones returns the first punt of the game 73 yards ..and the extra point .....makes it 7-0 Texans and the offense hasn't even touched the ball.

...

Texans UnderWay vs Bengals

3:06 PM Sun, Oct 26, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Bengals 3 and out ...and punting ....
and Jacoby Jones runs it all the way back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Former U.H. star shining with Rams

5:58 PM Thu, Oct 23, 2008 |
Butch Alsandor

Growing up in Houston, Donnie Avery was never the biggest guy playing pickup football games but he was always the fastest. Now the 5'11, 184 pounder is putting his 4.2 40 yard dash speed to good use with the St. Louis Rams. Recently, the Rams have been in transition with Jim Haslett replacing Scott Linehan as head coach. So far the move has been great for the team and for Avery.

...

What's Scary About The Texans??

2:37 PM Thu, Oct 23, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Plenty if you're an opposing defense.
It's time to give "props" to the Texans offensive line. There are new starters and there's one "wiley old veteran" on the line ....but in the end .....these guys are getting the job done weekly .....even though many observers thought they would not.

...

For Schaub its Phillies all the way

4:47 PM Wed, Oct 22, 2008 |
Butch Alsandor

I was out at Reliant Stadium this morning getting the 411 on the Texans, as they worked out a game plan for the winless Bengals. A victory by the Texans on Sunday would be their 3rd straight, and that would be a franchise record.
Quarterback Matt Schaub is looking forward to the game on Sunday, and the one being played on the diamond tonight.

Unlike "Joe the Plummer" Ogbonnaya is a real star

2:44 PM Fri, Oct 17, 2008 |
Butch Alsandor

In the world of politics "Joe the Plummer's" 15 minutes of fame won't last much longer, but it appears Texas running back Chris Ogbonnaya better get used to the spotlight. When the season started, the former Strake Jesuit star wasn't really a part of Mack Bown's backfield by committee. He was a third down back if he was used at all. But when the senior finally got a real shot he made the most of it.

This week Brown was making the rounds on ESPN, appearing on almost every live show on the network.
I know because I was home sick and saw most his spots. Mack is one of those coaches who has ...

Houstonians are shining in baseball's postseason

8:40 PM Thu, Oct 16, 2008 |
Carleton Cole

Houston baseball fans have to be loving the major league playoffs. Sure we all wanted to see the Astros in the postseason, but that didn't happen. Instead we've been treated some excellent individual performances with Houston connections.

Front and center are the Phillies. No question one of the feel good stories of the season has been Brad Lidge. Ever since Albert Pujols smacked him around Minute Maid Park 3 years ago, Lidge was not the same. That is in an Astros uniform. Not all players have flourished in a change of scenery, but in Lidge's case it turned out to be the best career move he could make...

DeMeco says Horns no. 1, but "Roll Tide"

2:56 PM Wed, Oct 15, 2008 |
Butch Alsandor

In the Texans dressing room this morning, I could hardly believe my ears. Did linebacker DeMeco Ryans, an All-America from Alabama really say Texas should be
no. 1 in the country in college football? He did, but he also added this little bit of wisdom to it, "Texas, because they're already no. 1." "Bama doesn't need to jump on the 1, we need to sit back and not get the big head and continue to do what they've been doing every week.

Alabama was ranked 2nd in the country, but they didn't play last week. While they were off U.T. put a spanking on O.U., so Texas jumped over Alabama in the poll m...

The Champions Tour is in town again this week ....did you know it??

texans Win ...and give the credit to Schaub ....

3:09 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Despite being under duress all day long ....Schaub led his team to the winning touchdown ...including ...a quarterback draw for the game winning points.!!!!
He's been killed by his critics ...but today ..he made a killer play ...for the win.
Congrats to Matt Schaub and the TExans for win #1 of '08.

...

Texans Kickoff .....

3:06 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

:03 seconds left ............Brown kicks it....and the Dolphins will have the ball at their own 41 yard line .....:02 left.
It comes down to one final play ..........
It's over .....Texans win ........29 to 28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...

On 2nd down ......Schaub throws into double coverage...

3:03 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub ..quarterback draw for the score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you kidding me???????????
Schaub scores ..and Texans take the lead .........
29 to 28. two-point conversion fails.

...

Texans 1st And Goal .....

3:01 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Great reception ...Schaub to Johnson ...ball at the 3 yard line ....
Here we go .....
incomplete to Andre' Davis in the endzone .....
:12 seconds left .

...

Texans Still Alive ......

2:59 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub ...no 1st down ......passes to Kevin Walter ....and he goes out of bounds at the Miami 11 yard line.

...

Upon Further Review.......

2:58 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

The interception ...is overturned.
The Texans have another chance ...it's 4th down though.

...

Schaub Throws to Andre' Davis ...

2:53 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub ..after getting sacked on 1st down ...calmly stepped up and drilled Andre' Davis for a big gain ...to the Texans 36 yard line ...
Now Schaub ....on 3rd down .....faced with 3rd and ten ....the Dolphins have been bringing tremendous pressure ......and they hit Schaub ...and the ball is picked off.
it looks like it was trapped but the ruling on the field ....says it's an interception ....now it's being reviewed.

...

Dolphins Trying To Set Up Game Winner

2:49 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

And Ronnie Brown scores .....Miami scores the TD and goes up 27 to 23 .......the extra point makes it 28 to 23 and there's 1:45 left in the game.
I don't think that's such a bad deal ...the way it was going ....the Dolphins were going to milk the clock and kick the field goal from point blank range ...now the Texans .. trailing by 5 have a chance .......

...

Texans Hanging but ....this is a real nail-biter....

2:41 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Dolphins have it 2nd and 5 from their own 36 ....
Pennington .....fires to the left sideline ....and it's incomplete to Greg Camarillo ....who by the way has had a big game.
3rd down ...now .....huge play .....Eugene Wilson ..just ran onto the field .....and intercepts a pass that was deflected ....but he then fumbled it back ..and Miami gets it first down Dolphins.....Oh no.!!!!!!!!!

...

Dolphins On The Move ....

2:38 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

big 3rd and one situation coming up for Dolphins .....
Texans lead 23-20 with 5:00 left .....
Pennington .....hands off to Ronnie Brown ...and he gest the first dowon out to the 31 yard line.

...

Texans dodge a bullet ...

2:35 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub's pass deflects off Kevin Walter ....and should have been intercepted ...by Miami defensive back drops it ...and Texans retain possession. Kris Brown ...then connects on 42 yard field goal ....Texans lead 23 to 21.

...

Texans Get Punt ....and they're moving downfield ....

2:33 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub has just converted two big pass plays. his first to Owen Daniels ...and his 2nd to Kevin Walter. The series started by having Andre Johnson drop a wide open pass.
texans looking good as they approach the Miami 20 yard line ....they have to hold onto the ball.
I hope they don't get conservative ....and go for the field goal. I really believe they need a touchdown here ......not 3 points.
Less then 7 minutes remaining.

...

Clock Is Miami's Ally

2:23 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

It's the Texans enemy ....as it winds past the 10 minute mark ....but Miami is doing a great job of milking the clock every time they lineup.
Moroln Greenwood makes 2 back to back great defensive plays ...and the Dolphins are forced to punt ......but wait ....they may go for it. time out .....Dolphins.

...

Big 3rd Down for Miami

2:20 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Pennington ......to pass .....gets hit .....by Tim Bulman just as he throws ....but he completes it and Miami retains possession.

...

Texans Go 3 and Out!!

2:18 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Texans unable to move the ball....and they punt ...to Miami.
Dolphins working from their own 24 yard line ....
Dolphins lead 21 to 20 with 12:12 left in the 4th quarter.

...

Big 3rd Down PLay ....

2:09 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Texans defense can make a statement with a hold here .......and Pennington is sacked by mario Williams ...forcing a punt. Great play all around .....really nice coverage downfield.

...

End Of third Quarter......

2:06 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Texans trails 21 to 20 ...as they head to the 4th quarter. That last fumble by Andre Johnson really hurts .... that's the 3rd turnover for Houston today.
The defense of the Texans is going to have to make something happen ...if they're going to win the game ......and it may also take a special teams' play to get this thing in the win column.

...

Texans getting closer

1:59 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub ...on 2nd down ....gets thrown down to the field .....offsides Miami ....
first down Texans at the Mmiami 25 yard line ....
but on the play ....Schaub hits Andre Johnson inside the 5 ...but Johnson fumbles the ball into the endzone ...and Mmiami recovers ....that reallyl hurts!!!!

Miami first and ten from their own 20 after the touchback ....

...

Texans Back On Offense

1:54 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub hands off to Ahman Green for a first down .....but on 2nd down ..the pass is batted down ...here we go ....3rd down and 9 to go ......Schaub runs and slides for the first down ......Ball at the Texans 49 yard line.
Texans trail 21 to 20 with 3:58 left in 3rd qtr.

...

Dolphins On The Move .....

1:45 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Miami .....quickly gets into Texans territory .......they are on the Houston 36 yard line .....
Greg Camarillo ....with the big play.
Dolphins now on thte Houston 27. The Texans defense needs to stiffen .....

...

Touchdown Texans ....

1:42 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Schaub to Andre Johnson ...for 11 yards across the middle and a touchdown ....Texans have their first lead of the game .... it's 20 to 14 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
What a performance by Johnson ....on that drive......he and Schaub accounted for most of the drive. He now has 7 catches for 130 yards.... Johnson has 27 career touchdowns.

...

Texans Have It At Their Own 22 yard line

1:38 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Let's see what the hometeam can do. Houston trails 14-13 with 13:01 left in the 3rd qtr.
Slaton carries on the inside ....for 3 yards on 1st down. Slaton has looked good again .....today ...
On 2nd down .... Schaub hands off tto Slaton ...and he gets drilled as he picks up about 2 more yards ....it's 3rd and 6.
On 3rd and 6 .....Schaub throws complete to the right sideline .....Andre Johnson catches it ..and then runs waaaay down field to the Miami 13 yard line ....what a play!!!!!!
The fans are back on the Texans side.

...

Underway in the 3rd

1:35 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Miami receives the opening kickoff to begin the 3rd quarter ...and they quickly convert for a first down ...I thought anyway ....they're going to have to measure ....they're inches short!!! The Dolphins will have to punt!!
The punt is uaway ....Jacoby Jones fields it at the 20 yard line of Houston ...and goes down.
Texans first possession of the 2nd half coming up....

...

That's It For The 1st Half!!!!

1:19 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Dolphins lead 14 to 13 ..and the last 2 minutes of the quarter were real head scratchers....
The Texans were very conservative with their play calling .......as they failed to get the first down they needed near midfield ....then the Dolphins ...despite having 3 timeouts left .....ran one play .....with :42 seconds left ....and then ran out the clock ....and walked off the field. Really an anticlimactic final 2 minutes in the 2nd quarter. At the half ....dolphins lead 14 to 13. MIami will receive the opening kickoff to begin the 2nd half.

...

Texans Squander Opportunity

1:17 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

They can't get the first down on a 3rd and one play ......so the Texans will have to punt the ball away. Matt Turk punts it ...and the Dolphins will have it first and twn ...and their own 16 yard line.

...

Texans have 2 minutes to make something happen

1:14 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

I don't know what happened to my feed ...but jacoby Jones changed the complexion of this game...with a70 yard punt return for a score with 5:24 left in the 2nd quarter. The Texans ....for some reason ...didn't go for two ...they kicked the extra point ...and Miami leads 14-13.

Now the Texans call timeout with 1:09 left in the first half .....to discuss their options.

...

Texans Defense Holds .....

12:57 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Dolphins forced to punt at the 2 minute warning in the 2nd quarter. The Texans have been getting great pressure on Pennington ....and now faced with 4th and 15 ....at their own 32 .... Miami will kick it away.
The last time they punted ...Jacoby Jones ...returned it 70 yards for a score.
Dolphins 14 ...Texans 13 with 2:00 left in the 2nd qtr.

...

Texans Have to Settle for a Field Goal

12:54 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Kris Brown hits from 33 yards out ....Dolphins lead cut to 14 to 6. with 9:07 left in the first half. Schaub again was greeted with boos ..and We Want Sage chants when he hit a defender in the helmet with his 3rd down pass. To their credit ...the Dolphins are putting big time pressure on Schaub almost everytime he drops back to pass.

...

Pass Interference on Miami

12:52 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Andre' Davis gets tackled at the line of scrimmage ....so the Texans have a 1st down at the Dolphins 15 yard line.

...

Texans Get A Great Return on the Kickoff

12:50 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Andre Davis gets the kickoff return to the Miami 45 yard line .....
Then Schaub completes a pass down the seam to Andre Johnson to the Miami 22 yard line ...the Texans ..once again ...are in business. they trail 14 to 3 ... with 10:17 left in the first half.

...

Dolphins Up The lead .....

12:47 PM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |

Texans trails 7-3 ..and they're going to have to get their passing game together.
so far Schaub ...who didn't play last week due to flu like symptoms .... has thrown for 84 yards ...but he's also been intercepted twice. He needs to get it together ....because the running game looks really good so far. Miami has the lead thanks to one play ....a fake reverse and pass by Chad Pennington ....off the "wildcat" play ...when running back Ronnie Brown takes the snap directlyl from the offensive center.

Miami was 3 and out on their first possession ...and the Texans take over after the punt at their own 13 yard line. 1st and ten ....Schaub really needs to put something together ....because the fans let him have it with boooooooooos when he left the field a short while ago. Houston is only the 12th best sports city?

5:41 PM Wed, Oct 08, 2008 |
Carleton Cole

News item: Houston is ranked as the 12th best "Sports City" by The Sporting News. Please the best we can do is 12th?
Let's look at the numbers. Boston remains on top, but Detroit second ? C'mon.

For years The Sporting News was referred to as the authority on baseball, but those days are gone. With the advent of the internet and all the other media, TSN is not the publication it once was, and in its attempt to foster some sort of "controversy" it posts this list. The release tells me this is the 15th year it has had its rankings.

No question Boston is a great sports, town, but in reality th...

Texans Loss Stings Hard

7:28 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Just when Sage Rosenfels and the Texans were looking to salt away a 10 point win over the visiting Colts.....Sage tried to do too much. Instead of just going down ...on a 3rd down run ....he tried to hurdle a defender and got helicoptered down by 3 defenders ....lost the ball ...and by the time Sage knew what hit him .....the Colts were scoring at the other end.

Then after the Texans got the ball back .Sage was stripped of the ball ...while trying to pass ....setting up the Colts in great field position and allowing them to put up the go-ahead score on the board. Sage topped his day off ....or bottomed if...

Texans Taking Charge

2:25 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Sorry ....internet problems ...but the Texans have taken charge of this game.
Kris Brown scored on a 43 yard field goal late in the 3rd to make it 20-10 Texans. Then after a Mario Williams sack ..the Texans got the ball earlyin the 4th quarter ...and scored a touchdown on the legs of Steve Slaton. Slaton .....the rookie out of West Virginia ... has 92 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on the day. Texans lead 27 to 10 with 7:40 left in the game.

Now ..the Colts just scored on a Manning to Tom Santi .. it's 27-17 now with 4:04 left.

...

Texans first and 10 .... at their own 46

1:54 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

The Colts just get flagged ...geez ..even the calls are going the Texans' way ....yes they can win!!! 4:33 left in the 3rd quarter.

...

Texans Moving ....

1:52 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Texans get a 3rd down run by Steve Slaton that gives them a first down at their own 21 yard line. And Ahman Green then comes in to gain 9 on the ground. Wow ...what's going on there??
They really need to put another score on the board.....to put the pressure on Manning and the Colts.

...

Texans Defense Holds ....

1:48 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Colts can't convert on 3rd down ...and punt away ....Jacoby Jones catches the ball on the 9 yard line ....for some reason ...he doesn't let the ball go...as he's coached to do.
Anyway ...the Texans have the ball back .....1st and ten ....leading 17 to 10 with 9:08 left in the 3rd quarter.

...

Colts With The Ball .....

1:46 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |

Back Underway ...Texans moving with the ball

1:34 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Rosenfels has the Texans back in Colts territory. 1st and 10 at the Indy 49 yard line.
Texans lead 17 to 10 ....and touchdown here would be very big.

...

Texans Take the Lead

1:17 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Sage Rosenfels to Andre Johnson on a 3-yard TD strike ....Texans up 17 to 10.
The Colts can't answer ...and the Texans lead at the half 17 to 10.
Impressive TD drive for Rosenfels and company .....61 yards and 9 plays ....capped off by the throw into the back of the endzone for the score.
This should be a great 2nd half of football!!

...

Colts Driving ...But Texans Battling

12:58 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

On third and 12 from the Houston 31 ....Peyton Manning goes long towards the endzone ...and just as Reggie Wayne was prepared to haul in the TD pass ...Jacques Reeves ...tapped the ball away ....on a great defensive play. His first of his days as a Texan. Wow ....and then Vinatieri misses a field goal attempt ..and the Texans bring fans to their feet.!! Texans take over on downs .....3:30 left in first half.

...

Texans Tie Score

12:54 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Kris Brown kicks a 37 yard field goal ...to tie the score at 10-10 ...but the playcalling was suspect when the Texans got close ....They were wearing out the Colts secondary with the passing game ...and then for some crazy reason ..they called Ahman Green's number on a draw play up the middle that netting nothing ..and Brown had to kick the field goal. Had the Texans taken the lad there it would have been huge. But they didn't do it ....and that's the type of thing that needs to change ...if this team wants to start winning games ...and winner over their fans. Colts now have the ball back ..and driving.

...

Texans Score ...

12:42 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Led by Sage Rosenfels ...subbing for the sick Matt Schaub ...led a 71 yard ...9 play drive which was capped off by Steve Slaton's 1 yard TD run. Finally ..the Texans fans have something to cheer about. This game started off so badly for the Texans ...and the sun is already beating down on the fans in the North endzone ...that this crowd was restless.

That TD drive ...got everyone back into the game. This place was rocking during the first two Colt's possessions ....as they were really loud when Peyton Manning called the Colts to the line of Scrimmage ....that could be a factor today ...if the Texans can ...

Texans Knocking on the Door

12:38 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |
Matt Musil

Rosenfels has the offense moving ...and Ahman Green ... actually carred the ball twice and was not injured. One for a 1st down.
On 2nd and goal ....rookie Steve Slaton ...carried it in from the one yard lline.....
10-7 Colts ..and the Texans are showing some life!!
12:06 left in the 2nd quarter.

...

12:24 PM Sun, Oct 05, 2008 |

Texans now on the move ....with Rosenfels leading the way.
