Let's face it ...they have a lot of work to do. The one thing fans need to understand though ..... Matt Schaub is not getting bumped for Sage Rosenfels anytime soon. I remember the night before Schaub was introduced as the Texans new quarterback about a year and a half ago ....Texans G.M. Rick Smith told me,"This kid ... he's our guy." Kubiak announced earlier this week ..that there would be no change at the quarterback spot going into the Jacksonville game. That, despite Schaub's lackluster performances in the first two games .....and the growing roar of discontent from the Texans fans. Before practice Wednesday .... Schaub said he appreciated Kubiak''s support. "That's huge ... it's great when the head coach has confidence in you," said Schaub. Also his teammates believe in Schaub. It's not that they dont' also have confidence in Rosenfels ...it's just that they know Schaub can get the job done and they want him to succeed as much as anybody. Wide receiver Andre Johnson says,"I'm behind matt all the way. It hasn't just been one guy not getting the job done." Just watching Schaub and Johnson work early in training camp ....I thought they were really getting into a good rythym ....but because Kubiak decided not to "push" Johnson much during the pre-season schedule ....I think some of the chemistry between the two has suffered. They just don't seem to be "in-sync." That chemistry needs to be worked out in a hurry ....and they looked sharp at practice on Wednesday. (But of course ..no one was trying to take either one of their heads off.) You can expect to see more of receiver, Andre' Davis, on Sunday. Kevin Walter didn't practice on Wednesday ....and Davis is pushing David Anderson as the 3rd down receiver anyway ...even if Walter does play. Expect rookie Steve Slaton to once again get the lion's share of carries at the running back spot. I would expect him to share time with Chris Taylor. Ahman Green did practice Wednesday ..... but until he shows me differently ... he's always a question mark in my book. Pro Bowl linebacker Demeco Ryans was saying Wednesday that,"It's time to turn this around. The time is now." I know he believes that. He came out and made a "statement" type play to begin the 3rd quarter last week in Nashville ....the only problem is .....the offense couldn't feed off the defense's positive energy. A lot of that lies on the shoulders of Schuab. He's a low-key ....all business ... kind of guy ....but he needs to find some "inner-strength" to get him through this tough time and lead his team .... the way he's capable of doing. Texans management rolled the dice when they traded for Schaub ...and it's time for him to show management ....that he's worth the gamble. I love Sage ...and his competitive nature .....but I still believe Matt is the guy who can get this turned around. If he can just get some help from the offensive line and his receivers ... the Texans can get in the win column this weekend. A place they should have been in last weekend ...if the offense could have held up it's end of the bargain. What do you think the Texans' biggest problem is?? Just let me know. |
