Eye Of The Storm??

I could sense something different in the air this morning .... and it wasn't so much all the talk about Edouard the Tropical Storm/Hurricane ..... it was more about the intensity of this morning's Texans' workout. Then a fight broke out .... and at that point ... I realized ... no matter what Gene & Dr. Neil's tracking charts showed ... The eye of this storm was on the practice field at Reliant Park.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak wants his football team to get tougher. That's one of the reasons he brought in Alex Gibbs to be his assistant head coach in charge of the offense. Defensive coordinator Richard Smith told me recently,"I tell you what having Alex here does ... he makes his guys play tough ...and it makes us (the defense) have to play better."

Kubiak told me this morning that he told the team last night that it needed to be tougher and play tougher. They did that this morning ....and a fight broke out. Kubiak had to run into the pile and help separate the players ..... but I don't think he was all that disappointed to see the skirmish.

As for the hurricane/tropical storm affect on the Texans. Kubiak says a plan is in place and they'll probably be practicing in the bubble Tuesday. I asked GM Rick Smith for more details and he said,"Safety is the most important thing. We're prepared for anything, which includes reparing the damage around here to picking up and moving the whole operation. So we're prepared for that and hopefully we won't have to do anything with that."

As of Monday afternoon ... the Texans were still planning on having practice in the bubble Tuesday morning. And no matter what the hurricane tracking charts show ..... Kubiak is hoping for another "stormy" and intense practice tomorrow.
