The Texans opened camp at 8:30AM Friday ....and about 45 minutes into practice the team's 1st round pick Duane Brown showed up. "I think it's the first time I've ever seen a guy sign his contract with his ankles taped," said head coach Gary Kubiak. But while offensive tackle Duane Brown was anxious to get on the field and try to fit in at the starting left tackle spot .... veteran running back Chris Brown apparantly wasn't so anxious. Kubiak wouldn't say exactly where Brown was today ....but rumors are that he's attending his brother's wedding. Talk about poor planning. Come on. I think Chris can really help the Texans out depthwise this season .... but only if he's on the field. I'm not saying football is more important than family ...but at the same time ..... how about planning things out a little better?? I'm guessing his brother realizes Chris plays in the NFL right?? Wow ..that's a head scratcher. As for the rest of the team ...things went well at the first practice. "What is impressive to me is the overall talent level is up this year. We have great competition at every position," said Texans' general manager Rick Smith. Also worth noting ... even though Duane Brown did miss the first part of practice ... he was in the starting left tackle spot when 11 on 11 drills started. Matt Shaub, Andre Johnson and Ahman Green all looked full speed running through drills ....the biggest question is ... can those three offensive weapons ....stay healthy the entire season. I think they have to ...... if the Texans want to make that serious "playoff push" they are all talking about. |
