The news that Tiger Woods will have season ending knee surgery to repair torn ligaments sent shockwave through the P.G.A. Tour. After all, what are the Pips without Gladys Knight. Can you imagine the Dave Matthews Band without Dave Matthews. I can promise you commissioner Tim Finchim isn't looking forward to life without his biggest attraction no matter what he says. Tour veteran Kenny Perry put it this way, "Tiger is our tour." Never was that statement more clear than after Woods won the U.S. Open playing with a double stress fracture of his left tibia, and torn ligaments in his left knee. Usually you give away a few strokes to even things out, not break leg. Actually it didn't really even anything out because Tiger and Rocco Mediate were the only players under par. Where was Phil, Sergio, and Adam Scott? Will it come down to Rocco to save the tour. Hey, I was cheering for him. The guy showed up with a "grande" Ice Coffee from Starbucks, and a peace sign on his belt buckle and almost became the oldest guy to win the Open at 45 . Rocco was really a breath of fresh air. I mean, does Stephen Ames, Woody Austin, and Briny Baird really rock your boat. Somebody better rock something because without Tiger, many sports fans feel like the tour is boring with a capital "B". I didn't say golf fans, I said sports fans because that's what Tiger brings to the table.
