Texans Sign Pass Rusher

The Texans signed unrestricted free agnet Rosevelt Colvin today. Colvin won a couple of Super Bowl rings while with his last team ... the Patriots....but he suffered a foot injury last November. Now the Texans are gambling on him being healthy again.

Colvin played in 11 games with New England last season ... starting in 10 of them. He's an active outside linebacker ....who's expected to be a situational player ..... focused on rushing the passer. I know the Texans want to get more pressure on the quarterback from the opposite side .... but no one was available to comment on today's signing from management.

For his part .... Colvin is an impressive guy. He's polished and well-spoken and speaks with conviction when he says he was looking for a place to "spend some time." He says he promised his wife and kids .... wherever he signed .... he was planning on staying there awhile. Colvin says he was looking for a committment .....and he says the Texans have provided. He has family in the area ...and he says this feels like a "2nd homecoming."

If Colvin can provide consistant pressue on opposing quarterbacks ...there's no douibt that Texans fans will make him feel at home. Colvin is a 10 year veteran who was originally drafted in the 4th round by the Chicago Bears back in 1999.

Veteran ND Kalu has been dealing with an off-season surgery .....but when he's been healthy he's been the best pass rusher for the Texans. Until mario finally started to kick it in last season .... Kalu was by far the best on the team. Now the Texans are getting some depth in the pass rush department. On the surface this looks like another smart move by GM Rick Smith. Details of the deal were not available ...and again .. Smith was unavailable for comment.
