As far as Superstars and their quirks go, Tracy McGrady is better than the rest. He doesn't have his personal recliner next to his locker. He always makes himself available to the press, even when its not in his best interest. He also attends most team functions. On the court he's still got the goods. The guy can create his own shots, and in the N.B.A., that's still one of the most sought after qualities. Apparently Detroit General Manager Joe Dumars, who I know to be of sound mind since we went to college together, is ready to shakeup the Pistons. Joe D. is ready to dance, the only question seems to be who his partner will be. McGrady's name keeps popping up along with Carmelo Anthony of the Nuggets. How would you feel if the Rockets dealt T-Mac for Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince? The salary cap numbers would workout, but would Billups and Prince work better with Yao Ming? The big problem with McGrady has been the fact that he's not very durable. But when he's healthy he and Yao work extremely well together. What if the Pistons offered the Rockets Rasheed Wallace and Rip Hamilton? Would that be enough to feel good about dealing McGrady? How much should the fact that When Rafer Alston played well, T-Mac was great. The team ran off 22 straight victories, even with Yao out of the lineup with an injury. Trading McGrady doesn't mean the Rockets will scoot straight into the second round. If Daryl Morey wants to tweak, then go ahead and tweak the supporting cast. I know the clock is ticking on Tracy and Yao winning a championship, but there are no guarantees if you trade McGrady. Right now you have a solid contender, if you tweak to much its like starting over. Rocket fans Rasheed Wallace can't put this team on his back, so do you really want to deal McGrady? |
