Tejada swings to country beat

After starting the first 41 games for the Astros, Miguel Tejada finally got a day off. It wasn't his idea. Astros skipper Cecil Cooper insisted. So Tejada, with his oakley's on took a seat in the dugout.
Outside of Lance Berkman, Miguel has been the Astros hottest hitter. His roll continued last night as he went 3-for 5 driving in the go ahead run in the 7th.

You may have noticed the good folks at F.S.N. Houston have started playing Carribean music whenever Tejada is at the plate. Its all done in fun , and Miguel is from Santo Domingo . But that's not his favorite music. When he turns his ipod up, its country music that's blaring in his ears. It all started last year when he was with the Orioles.

They had a rule no music in the clubhouse, so Kevin Millar would bring his radio to the training room. Millar is a huge country music fan and he converted Tejada. Miguel told me, "ever since then I've been hooked on country music, I just love it." When Miguel's at home, one of the flatscreens are usually tuned to the Country Music Channel .
"I go to the country tv channel , and I know who's singing because they write out the names for me its really nice," Tejada said.
To my total suprise , Miguel was really excited about having this conversation. Country music has never had that affect on me. Obviously, I've been missing out on lyrics like, "Oh he ain't worth missin, oh we should be kissin".

So I asked Tejada, who's your favorite singer? Is it Trace Adkins, Trisha Yearwood, Kenny Chesney ? I actually looked those names up before the interview , but Miguel said none of the above. Number one in his heart and his ipod is Toby Keith. I do know he sings about "getting his drink on", and that he did all those Ford Commericals with Phil Mickelson. Thanks to Miguel next time I add new tunes to the ipod, i'll checkout some country. So the next time you hear that Carribean music when Tejada's at the plate , imagine it with a little country twang because that's what Miggy listens to.
