The Texans were scheduled to play in a charity golf event Monday .... to raise money for the team's Foundation. The tournament was rained out .....but head coach Gary Kubiak was still beaming. The reason ...?? Well ...the reason is simple. Kubiak gets to start coaching on the field later this week. That's right later this week .....the Texans hold this year's off-season mini-camp. So ... all of the veterans and all of the new draftees and free agents will be on the field at the same time ....for the first time. Kubiak thinks it's an important time,"Well, it's very important. We're gonna get five practices in, in three days. We'll go twice Friday, twice Saturday and once Sunday morning. It'll give us as coaches to sit back the next week and take a look at the new kids that we're bringing in and how they're going to fit what we're doing. Start to put together depth charts and those type of things before we go into the OTA's in May." Kubiak was dressed in a golf shirt and shorts and looked like he was ready to whack the little white ball around awhile today ..... to get his competitive juices flowing abit. It's been a tough time for him the past weeks along with being an exciting time. He's been in on personnel decisions leading up to the draft ....but he hasn't been able to do what he does best ...and that's coach the young men on his football team. That's what he'll start doing again on Friday ..and that's why he looked so excited ... when he talked about getting his full squad on the field for the first time. By the way .... GM Rick Smith ...says of all the returning veterans he believes Ahman Green will have the biggest comeback year. He says Green has been working out super hard ...he's healthy ...and ready to make up for lost time last season. Texans fans can only hope he's right about that prediction. |
