Okay ....maybe that's not how the team would promote their first round pick ....but Offensive Tackle Duane Brown is an accomplished alto saxaphonist. He's been playing since the 6th grade .....but oh by the way ....he also has played some football over the past several years. In a one-on-one interview conducted a few minutes ago ...and will appears later today here on khou.com ....Brown revealed to me that he's a saxaphone player and he used to play tight end at Virginia Tech. He first played tight end ....then he was moved to right tackle for his sophomore and junior seasons ...then shifted to left tackle his senior season. His first collegiate start for Virginia Tech was versus North Carolina State ......versus Mario Williams. He said he held his own ....but Williams was an intimidating figure. Now he says,"Being able to go against him in practice, he is one of the best defensive ends in the league. I think practicing against him will be great for me and will help me." Now ... ...a player can't make those moves (from TE to RT to LT) unless he's talented physically ...... but a player also can't make those moves unless he's smart. And that's one of the big reasons the Texans really like this kid. He's a quick study ..and he's physically talented to get the job done. Brown will be asked to run-block ...a lot ....in Alex Gibbs offensive system ...but he says his strength is actually pass blocking ...which is good news for quarterback Matt Schaub. Brown is an impressive young man. |
