Saturday night after the Rocekts lost a Game-4 up in Utah ....Tracy McGrady said that he thought Dikembe Mutombo should have been in the game when Derron Williams shot his crucial free throws with 7 seconds left in regulation and the Rockets trailing by 2 points. Today ...McGrady made the same assessment but said he was not second guessing his coach. When I asked him abouth is post-game comment McGrady told me,"No i'm second guessing my coach. It's just in that situation I thought Dikembe and the other taller guys should have been in there and I still think they would have gotten the rebound." I asked Rick Adelman about Tracy's comment and he said,"Look everyone needs to take care of there own business at this point. I don't need Tracy or you guys to second guess me on that decision." But Adelman also told me he's not upset with Tracy for making a comment. "Everyone has an opinion when those things happen ..and I know that when I make that decision. That's past history now. I thought about it for about 4 hours Sunday morning ....but after that I started watching a western and forgot about it. One thing about Adelman ....this guy is a professional through and through ...and he's not going to let a public complaint by his star player ruin his life. For his part ...McGrady talks to the media about everything. We can ask him a question on any topic and his answers honestly ...and Saturday night he was giving his honest opinion. Trouble is ....those kind of comments made publically ususally don't help anyone. Questioning the coach in the huddle or in the lockeroom is one thing ...doing it in a post-game news conference setting is quite another. I'll say this though ... the Rockets are a tight unit .... one wrongly placed quote won't affect them one bit. These guys are mentally tough ...and they remain on the same page. Now ..if they can just figure out how to get on the "right" side of some officials calls Tuesday night ...and they'll be headed back to Utah for Game 6. |
