Here we go again. Anytime the baseball season begins, everyone is excited but those positive thoughts have quickley vanished as the Astros open the first ten games of the season 3-7. Every year we go through this it seems like and so now the analyzing begins. The so called experts were worried about the starting pitching and they should have been with new faces and those coming off injurries. But the starting pitching has been a bright spot other than the ace Roy Oswalt. For some reason Roy O has struggled and you know he will get it together quickly so the rest of the guys need to stay healthy and keep throwing strikes. The offense has been a big disappointment as Gneral Manager Ed Wade has put together one of the most potent group of hitters in the league. In fact, coming out of San Diego, they were termed by an opposing player as the best offensive group the Padres will face this season. So what gives? The way I see it, it literally begins with the top of the line-up. Plain and simple lead off hitter Michael Bourn and right now, Hunter Pence hitting in the second spot, need to get on base. In the three games series against the Cardinals, they were up a total of 25 times and got on only five times. That won't cut it with the power they've got in the middle of the line-up. I've enjoyed the miracle comebacks in past years, but this year, let's not bow out before we sign in. |
