The winning fans won't be able to toast their favorite team today and there will be no crying in their beer for the losing side. At least not here. Reliant is high and dry during the tournament -- NCAA rules. That probably came as a shock to many Houston sports fans who enjoy a cold beverage or two while watching their favorite teams. The NCAA even has rules for beer commercials during tournament games: • Such advertisements can not compose more than 14 percent of the space devoted to advertising or not more than 60 seconds per hour of any telecast or broadcast or more than 120 seconds total in any telecast or broadcast; • Such advertisements or advertisers incorporate "Drink Responsibly" educational messaging; • The content of all such advertisements is free of gratuitous and overly suggestive sexual innuendo, no displays of disorderly, reckless or destructive behavior and meets other criteria such as not being defamatory, obscene, profane, vulgar or not including overly and demeaning portrayals of males and/or females as sexual objects. I'm guessing the clearly "overserved" young Longhorn fans I saw weaving their way out of Reliant Friday night found a way to sneak in their own beverage of choice. College kids and alcohol? Some things never change. |
