Connor Atchley has surprised some with his overall game this year.

He's averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds a game for the Longhorns against some of the toughest teams in the nation.

Watch Matt Musil's report on Connor Atchley But his former high school coach, Lynn McDonald says surprising people is something Atchley likes to do.

"I always thought Connor was a shy quiet type of player, you could get on him and he would say, 'yes sir.' He would never raise his voice. Then one day I was walking down the hallway at our school and there's Connor with five girls around him and I thought this guy is not as shy as I thought he was."

McDonald and I dug through the Clear Lake record books and checked out old videos to get a clearer picture of Connor Atchley's high school days.

His senior season he averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds a game.

McDonald describes him as a gym rat who always worked hard.

"We are so proud of that guy and he's grown. He's becoming a man compared to what he was here."

And McDonald is confident the pressure of playing back home will not factor into Atchley's game this weekend.

"The one thing I always thought about Connor. The bigger the game the better he played."
