By Michelle Homer Former NBA superstar Magic Johnson is hoping to provide a little magic for his alma mater. He was surrounded by Longhorn fans and patiently signed autographs before the game got under way. Johnson's college coach, Judd Heathcoat, is sitting nearby. He coached Johnson when Michigan State won the national championship in 1979, beating Indiana State in what is still the most watched college basketball game in history. Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz is also in the crowd wearing a Spartan ballcap. Smoltz was born in Warren, Michigan. His teammates are taking on the Indians tonight in Atlanta, but Smoltz is nursing a sore shoulder and is expected to start the season on the disabled list. The Longhorns also have a couple of famous alums on hand. Roger Clemens and Vince Young were spotted among the Longhorn faithful. |
