Pro Boxer is a new business partner of the Houston Dynamo MLS team ... and he told me in a one on one interview that his number one priority now is to get a stadium deal done with the city for his new team. Prior to a downtown rally at lunchtime today ...... De La Hoya pledged his support to the sport of soccer in Houston in a big way. De La Yoya has put $10 million of his own into this venture ....and he tells me that after growing up playing and watching soccer .... he's hapy to finally be back involved with the sport. He had other ownership opportunities with other MLS teams but he says,"I wanted to be here because Houston is the best. They have the championshhip team here and that's what I want to be a part of." He says he will meet with Mayor Bill White soon .....and he believes a stadium deal for the Dynamo will soon follow. De La Hoya has a very busy schedule for 2008. He's making this his final year for competing as a pro boxer ...and he has 3 fights scheduled ...including a re-match with Floy Mayweather Jr. in September. But he says .....even though he'll be busy training ... he will also be making time for his new investment here. De La Hoya's nickname is Golden Boy ....and his chisled good looks that he has maintained despite the sport that he's in is nothing short of impressive. De La Hoya is a very rich man..... but even though he's won 6 pro titles in addition to his gold medal that he won for the US in Barcelona .... along with being a great boxer ..... he is an astute businessman ....and he believes that the Dynamo is a great investment. His dream is to be the majority owner of this franchise ...... and clearly when he has set his sights on his goals in life ..... he most often achieves them. No wonder the Dynamo threw a big downtown party for him!! ...Look for the one on one video interview with him elsewhere on khou.com. |
