And Texans recover at their own 23 yard line ..... make that Ernest Wilford ...on the TD catch .....for the Jags. 42-28 Texans with 2:56 left. TD pass to Erenest Wilford .....and it's 42 to 28 after the PAT. Linebacker Charlie Anderson sacks Gray back to the 12 yard line... ...Richard Angulo ...a Tight End ...makes a great grab for the Jags at the Texans 16 yard line ..and the Jags are in business ......close to the Texans endzone. Clock rolling ..... 5:30 left. ...The Jags look like they want to run clock as much as the Texans do. they've been running the ball ...and throwing short pass plays ....as the clock runs down ......now inside the 7:00 minute mark. The Jags just want to get out of here healthy...and start preparing for the playoffs. ...A Holding call wipes out a big runing play for the Jags andmoves the ball back to their own 44 yard line. ...Sage Rosenfels ...make an ill-advised pass and is picked off!!! Texans have the ball at their own 45 yard line. They will now attempt to run some clock ......I would assume anyway. Texans lead 42 to 21 with 12:01 left in the 4th quarter. ...The Texans have scored six touchdowns today .....giving them a team record 43 for the season. The previous record was 37. They will also end the day allowing the fewest sacks in team history. This one will stand ......as Walker goes in standing up .....and it's now 42 to 21 with the PAT. ...Knee was down and the Texans get the ball inside the one yard line. It'll be 3rd down ...Jags don't think Walker got in!!!!!!!!! Replay officials are looking at it. ...Walker scores on great effort as he extends the ball to the goal line. Sage Rosenfels would tie David Carr for the single season TD mark for the Texans. That stat is amazing .... considering Sage has only started 5 games this season. It also shows how inept the Texans offense has been in the past....unfortunately. ...I thought the play clock had gone to :00 before the Jags got that play away .....but the officials didn't see it that way ....and the play stands !! ...The TD pass to Matt Jones for the TD ....interfernce called on Fred Bennett declined .... 48 yard pass play to Matt Jones gets the Jags into Texans territory ... at the 33 yard line. ...Texans' Curome Cox puts the big hit on Jags' Chad Williams on the kickoff following the TExans latest score. 7:14 left in the 3rd .... Texans lead the Jags .... 35 to 14. It was another late arriving crowd today ....but as the two teams play it here in the 3rd quarter .....the lower bowl is packed .....and the upper decks look full also. The only exception ....as usual ..is in front of the club section ....where fans would rather drink at the bar and watch on TV than watch the action live. This is a social phenomenon .....I will never understand. ...Dayne scores from 12 yards out and the TExans take a 35 14 lead with the PAT. ...Texans are deep in jags territory .....and Ron Dayne is in for the score!!!! ...They have reached the Jags 26 yard line ...the last few yards picked up on a Sage Rosenfels to Vonta Leach pass play. ...Two weeks ago ...when the Texans hosted Denver on Thursday night ....they wore both red jerseys and red pants ...for Battle Red Day #1 of the 2007 season ....this time ...they only have the red jerseys .....while wearing their regular white pants ....but once again the Battle Red is coming through for the home team. Jacoby Jones nearly breaks one on the punt return .....but gets tackled at the Texans 38 yard line. ...When Davis turned on the Jets for the 2nd time today ......now things are settling down abit. Davis' 104 yard return is the longest in Texans history...and he's only the 7th player in NFL history to return and kickoff of that length. ...Andre' Davis for MVP of the game ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Texans fans are going wild!!!!!! ...Andre Davis does it again .....104 KO return for a score .....28 to 14 Texans!!!!!!!!!1 ...Earlier during the technical problems ....I reported that the Jags are resting many of their startesr including ....running backs Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew ...along with quarterback David Garrard. The good part of that is ....the Texans chances of winning have been enhanced ...but the bad part is ...if they don't win this game it will be very dissappointing. Former Texan ..Aaron Glenn is playing a lot at CB today for the Jags because they are resting so many players. This could be the former Aggie's final regular seson game ....ever. Glenn is a great guy ...and the Texans really ... After yielding a 66 yard ..9 play drive that ended with a pass play from Gray to Wilford which tied the game .....the Texans regained the lead only seconds later .... thanks to Andre' Davis' electric kickoff return. As they head to the 3rd quarter ...... the Texans lead 21 to 14. Also the Texans will receive the kickoff to start the 2nd half .....because they lost the opening coin toss to start the game ..and kicked off in the 1st quarter. ...It was Davis' 2nd Kickoff return for a score this season ........ ...Touchdown Texans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 97 yards!!! ...Gray to Ernest Wilford ....for 6 yards and the score .....the PAT makes it 14-al. ...to the Texans 6 yard line ...first and goal Jags ...1:17 left in the 2nd quarter ......Jags have it 2nd and 4 at the Texans 25. ...The Jags are at the Texans 25 yard line .....trailing 14 to 7. ...jags are driving .....and they have the ball first and ten at the Texans 42 yard line .....timeout on the field .....with two minutes left in the first half ... the Texans lead 14 to 7. 84 yards and 15 plays ....gets the Texans the go-ahead TD. HOUSTON -- Andy Dalton ran for a touchdown and Justin Watts had the go-ahead score to help TCU to a 20-13 win over Houston Friday night in the Texas Bowl. I have to end my in-game blog now and head to my live shot location ..... Justin Watts .... a backup tailback ...scores to make it 17-10 counting the extra point. TCU has it's first lead ...and the FROG HORN BLOWS on the near sideline!!!!!!!!!!!! ...TCU KNOCKING ON THE DOOR AS THE 4TH QUARTER BEGINS!! ...TCU gets credit for the pass completion ..and this possession continues!! ...JIMMY YOUNG WITH THE CATCH OF THE NIGHT ....BUT OFFICIALS TRYING TO DECIDE IF HE WAS IN OR NOT. Last night's Holiday Bowl featuring Texas and Arizona State had 65,000 fans .....and in only the 2nd Texas Bowl ....UH and TCU have drawn nearly as many. Paid attendance tonight for the 2nd Texas Bowl is 62,097 ... TCU's Chris Manfredini kicks a 29 yard field goal ..to tie score at 10-10. ...Dalton's pass nearly picked off .....and on comes the field goal unit for the Frogs ...1st and ten .... at the UH 16 yard line...... ...It seems like UH's defense has been on the field alot tonight. Andy gets drilled by UH defenders but still gets pass away ....gain of 13 ..but still short of first down marker .....it's 4th down. UH 's Philip Hunt with the sack ...big loss on the play ... Bonner of TCU returns punt to the UH 42 yard line ...and the Frogs are in business again in UH territory. the punt is a boomer which is fair caught inside the UH 15. Andy Dalton ....will throw it short of his intended receiver ....and there are :02 seconds left in the first half. ...TJ Lawrence kicks a 39 yard field goal .....to make it 10-7 Coogs. ...And it has me wondering ...is new head coach Kevin Sumlin watching from his hotel room out in Phoenix ....or is he in a team meeting as the Sooners prepare for their bowl game. If he's watching ....and I'm sure he is ...he can't be happy about the clock management. ...Keenum hands off to Alridge ..and he's nailed. not much of a gain .....if any. Loss of 2. Coogs didn't realize it ...and they lose about :20 seconds off the clock. ...Nearly sacked ....Keenum connects on a 21 yard pass play to Jeron Harvey1st and ten Coogs at th 15 yard line of TCU. ...Keenum flushed out of pocket and then he throws incomplete ...as Chris Gilbert is ruled out of bounds. UH return man Joseph Gonzales nailed after a 48 yard TCU punt. UH takes over at their own 10 yard line. We're still tied 7-7 with 6:40 left in the first half. ...Andy Dalton misfired .....Jimmy Young was wide open for a TD but Dalton misfired ..... TCU continues to put pressure on Keenum. sacked on 2 straight plays. TCU scores ...as former Katy HS standout .... Andy Dalton fakes the handoff ...and then runs to his left .....to score from 4 yards out. 7 to 7 game now with 10:24 left in the first half. It's 1st and goal .....TCU ... ...Running up the middle ..... Ryan Christian gains 7 ..nearly fumbles ....TCU keeps the ball ...Froggies are set up inside the Coogs' 15 yard line ...... 1st and 10. On the very next play Dalton gets nailed by Rocky Schwartz. No gain. ...TCU quarterback Andy Dalton scrambles for 14 yards and give the Frogs a 1st down inside the UH 30. UH defensive back Brandon Brinkley just got flagged for pass interference. TCU 1st down at the UH 47 yard line. Houston leads 7-0 after one quarter. Touchdown UH .... as Case Keenum hooks up with WR Andre Kohn on a 67 yard scoring pass play. It's 7-0 UH with :08 seconds left in the 1st quarter. ...The Coogs haven't been able to get their speedster Anthony Alridge loose on any long runs tonight.vaenc ...Dalton just completed a 22 yard pass to get close to the first down marker ....but on 3rd and 2 ......they misfire ...and the Horned Frogs will have to punt again. ...UH's Ernest Miller ...a safety ...sacks Dalton back at the TCU 7 yard line. ...Keenum and Alridge misfire on a lateral play to the right ....and the Horned Frogs havve forced another punt. And it goes all the way into the endzone on a 65 yard punt. Avery gets a first down ....on th epas from Keenum .....maybe this will get them going. ...Touchback!! Media Timeout on the field with 4:42 left in the 1st quarter. Still no score. ...The Texas Bowl logo is a huge belt buckle shaped thing ....and it really looks good as it coveres the midfield stripe. But as I was saying before ..... Texans GM Rick Smith told me before the game that, "No we're not going to play on the same field as these guys .... they'll bring in a new field (grass) for us." I will say this though ....the field looks great. Last year after the game ..... both teams complained about the playing surface ...it was very, very slippery and quarterbacks and running backs were sliping all over the place. ...The Frogs will think it over during a media timeout. ...A long pass play from Andy Dalton to Justin Watts was wiped out with a holding call. The play would have set the Horned Frogs up on the UH one yard line!! Costly penalty for TCU ...During this time-out I'll pass along a little agronomy trivia you can use on your friends. But penalty is declined because TCU's Brian Bonner has a great return .....all the way down to the UH 46 yard line. 41 yard punt .... 43 yard return. TCU is winning the battle of field position so far ......but it's still 0-0 with 6:17 left in the 1st quarter. ...UH QB Case Keenum drilled two straight plays. QB Cased Keenum for Houston gets a first down with a 10 yard run. Best offensive play ... for either team ....so far. ...TCU unable to take advantage of great field position ...and Horned Frogs are forced to punt. But the Coogs will get the ball back after the punt at their own 20. and they don't make it .....as the pass is broken up .....TCU takes over on downs at their own 49 yard line ......will the gamble come back to haunt the Coogs?? Quick 6 returns it 32 yards to the uh 42 YARD LINE. ...TCU has won the toss and will defer. TCU is wearing all white uniforms with purple helmets ....... Former UH coach Bill Yeoman received the loudest ovation when the Texas Legends of Football were introduced before the game ..... coach turned 80 years old on Wednesday. The teams, the fans and Matt Musil are at Reliant Stadium for tonight's Texas Bowl. 11 News Sports reporter Matt Musil will blog live from tonight's Texas Bowl. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ...Texans head coach Gary Kubiak put his players through their first on-the-field workout, Wednesday, before their season finale this weekend. Kubiak says it was a spirited workout! ...Pitcher Roger Clemens has already been found guilty in the "court of public opinion." Is that right? I can just see Phil Garner sitting under a palm tree , holding a sweet little General Manager Ed Wade has been shaping the Astros into his own image , Time has run out ...and the banged up Texans ....who many gave up for dead ...win over the playoff bound Bucs .... 28 to 14. Bucs out of timeouts ..... two minute warning comes ....and the Texans are up 28 to 14. 2:24 left .....McCown has the Bucs out to the 40 yard line .....now it's 3rd and 4 .... great punt ....all the way inside the Bucs 10 yard line ....... The fans are headed to the exits ....as the Bucs take their next to last timeout. Texans run it again ...in the person of Darius Walker ...Darius Walker ...on the carry ....didn't get much ...but it did run some time off. Jacoby Jones catches it at his own 35 ..and returns to his 40. Earl Cochran sacks McCown ....they are really getting pressure on him!! ...If the Texans can hold the Bucs out of the endzone here .....they can get the ball back and run most of the remaining time off the clock. ...Sage nearly got picked off on 2nd down ...it's 3rd and 9 ......from their own 28. After the pass comnpletion ......the Texans make a big hit ...by Will Demps on the receiver ...and Will Demps recovers the fumble. Greenwood tackles Grham for no gain. McCown hands off to Graham ......he scored earlier ....but he only gets 3 this time. ...at their own 13 yard line. We're tied at 7-all. ...Complete to Andre Davis ....but he's short of the first down marker. Time to punt. ...Rosenfels lofts the pass to Kevin Walter ....but he can't quite hang on. ...They get the conversion. Make it 5 of 6.
