It appears that Alabama offensive coordinator Major Applewhite is the University of Houston's top choice to take over the program after losing Art Briles yesterday. It could be a long shot to get him ..... but clearly UH wants the former UT quarterback in a Major way. Bringing Applewhite in would assure the Cougars and their fans that the offensive minded football would just ....... keep on comin'. Also according to my sources Notre Dame offensive coordinator Michael Haywood ...who's a Houston native and St. Thomas H.S. alum .... is high on the list of candidates. He is a former runningback coach at UT and LSU. Former Miami head coach Larry Coker is interested in the job ...and the same goes for Oklahoma State Associate Head Coach Joe DeForest. DeForest was a grad-assistant on offense at Rice ........ when Trevor Cobb won the Doak Walker Award for the nation's best runningback in 1991. Also former UH wide receiver Jason Phillips has been hired by athletic director Dave Maggard to help out with the Coogs offense at least through the Texas Bowl. |
