Where were you last night when Barry Bonds became baseball's all-time homerun king?? I know where I was ..... asleep in bed. That's because I'm like millions of other people who are not excited about Barry's feat.

It's a totally different attitude than I had back in April of 1974 when Henry Aaron was going for homerun number 715 to break Babe Ruth's record. That night my girlfriend's sister sat in for me at a music lab so I could stay home and watch Aaron take his shot at getting the record. It was an awesome night as I remember it. Not just because I skipped out of class ....but because I was like millions of others ....who were thrilled to see the record fall in modern times. Aaron had been under a tremendous amount of pressure. He had received death threats against both him and his family ....and watching Hammerin' Hank round the bases that night .... it just appeared that he had just had a 1,000 pound weight lifted from his shoulders. I was so happy for him. He had been a gentleman and a true professional throughout the process despite his racist detractors.

Watching the replays of Barry's homer last night didn't give me nearly as big of a thrill. In fact it didn't thrill me at all ..... but I don't begrudge Barry the record. He did it ....he didn't break any of baseball's rules so yes ...he is the Homerun King.

Now ....I do believe he had been on the "juice" at some point in his amazing "homer run" but baseball didn't police the stuff properly and they only have themselves to blame. Especially commissioner Bud Selig. He was the commissioner that let the players get away with taking all the performance enhancing stuff ..... by looking the other way ....while the players union assured him that all players were upstanding human beings and subjecting them to regular drug tests ...... was wrong. Now Selig is the one who looks like a fool.
