Free Admission To See NBA Stars Play

I've done a couple of stories on Channel-11 about the Pro City basketball league that plays at Fonde Rec. center on Monday and Wednesday nights this summer, but I haven't really given you a lot of the details. So here goes.

Here's what happens at Fonde on those nights throughout the summer. NBA players who either live here full-time or workout here during the summer play on different teams with former college players or European Pro players to form an eight team league. The championship game will be played on August 15th.

Players such as T.J. Ford, Rashard Lewis, Gerald Green, Steve Francis, Mike James, Sam Cassell, J.R. Smith, Luther Head .... and others can be seen on a regular basis.
Plus .... you'll see some guys you've never heard of ...but they also can play with the big boys. I was at a game last week and one of the best players on the court .....was a guy no one knew. But ..we sure enjoyed the way he played the game. One night I saw a group of no-names beat a team that had a few NBA players on it by 20 points.

If you attend any of these games, you don't have to pay admission. And the concessions are decent. I had a chili-dog, potato chips and a Coke for 3 dollars. That same stuff would have cost me 5 times that much at a college or pro arena and would have caused me more heartburn.

Former TSU player Kevin Granger and his business associate Kevin Allen run the show and it's a well-organized affair. Each game has officials that work the floor. I've seen all types of people at Fonde to watch the action ...ranging from NBA scouts, other NBA players, citizens from the inner-city to citizens from the suburbs.

Parking can be sketchy because of the loft apartments close-by ...... but if you like to see good basketball action ....I definately believe it's worth checking out. All the action is at Fonde Rec. Center near downtown.
