It wasn't too long ago the promo people at Turner Sports touted the NBA as "America's Game." The idea was since James Naismith invented basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts, it is as American as apple pie. O.K. basketball was invented in America, but it's not watched by a majority of Americans, especially the 2007 NBA Finals.
First the Spurs and the Cavaliers don't bring a national following like the Lakers and Celtics during the NBA heyday. However I find it kind of funny, the reasoning for such a fall in the ratings for game two didn't have anything to do with basketball. Yes, the TV critics are blaming the fall on the Sopranos. C'mon, if you were like me, you may have watched the first 15 minutes of the game and realized when LeBron James was sent to the bench with 2 fouls in the first 5 minutes, the game was over.
Further to add to the sillyness, the episode of the Sopranos is taking heat for its "confusing" ending.
OK there are a lot more choices on the remote these days, but let's clearly hit the nail on the head. Boring basketball is just that, boring, and as for Tony, "Forgetaboutit."
