Can Owls Do It?

5:54 PM Wed, Jun 20, 2007 |

Of course they can. Will they do it?? It's anyone's guess.
The biggest problem longtime coach Wayne Graham has right now ....is to get his players to shake off Wednesday's dissappointing loss and prepare for the game of the season Thursday. He hoped it wouldn't come down like this. His players hoped it wouldn't come down like this ....but it has ...and no one involved with that team wants to lose a second straight game Thursday like they did last year. Last year the Owls were in the identical place ....2 & 0 ....and only needing one win over Oregon State to advance into the World Series Championship br...

Astros are Heartbreakers

5:08 PM Tue, Jun 19, 2007 |

I was so frustrated watching the Astros collapse Monday night in Los Angeles. They were coming off a solid sweep of the Oakland Athletics over the weekend where they hit the ball like everyone thought they were going to when the season started. The hometown team is known for making dramatic comebacks as the season moves on and while languishing 10 games under five hundred, I was thinking the weekend success was going to be the start of them playing better.

The Angels are better than the A's and when the Astros had a 9-4 lead in the 7th inning out in California, I was thinking, this is good, no this is ...

Give 'em Credit

12:10 PM Fri, Jun 15, 2007 |

Viewing the sports world from a Houston point of view ...which I do .... it's a little tough watching another Texas NBA team move to the pinacle of the sport. I give Coach Pop and Tim Duncan credit for the 4 titles they've won together don't get me wrong. And the supporting cast that Poppavich and company put together around The Big Fundamental has been impressive. But c'mon .....Houston sports fans have to be hurting again today!! As many of us politely applaud the accomplishments of our !-10 basketball brothers on the outside, inside we're actually really hacked off that the local NBA franchise has basically ...

NBA Finals are not compelling

4:17 PM Mon, Jun 11, 2007 |

It wasn't too long ago the promo people at Turner Sports touted the NBA as "America's Game." The idea was since James Naismith invented basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts, it is as American as apple pie. O.K. basketball was invented in America, but it's not watched by a majority of Americans, especially the 2007 NBA Finals.
First the Spurs and the Cavaliers don't bring a national following like the Lakers and Celtics during the NBA heyday. However I find it kind of funny, the reasoning for such a fall in the ratings for game two didn't have anything to do with basketball. Yes, the TV critics are bla...

Hockey still doesn't get it.

1:25 PM Tue, Jun 05, 2007 |

News Item: Overnight ratings for the Stanley Cup are down from last year. Game four between the Ottawa Senators and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks garned a 2.3 rating and a 4 share on NBC, that's down from a 2.4 rating and a 5 share from last year's game 4.
There is no question there are a number of passionate Hockey fans in the United States, but the sport continues to fail to catch the imagination of the casual sports fan. Perhaps one big reason is the violence. Yes, I heard former Boston Bruins coach Don Cherry tell the American television audience the NHL needs more fighting because "We like to watch NASCAR ...
