Dynamo vs. Pachuca 8:30 p.m. tonight
Watch for our game blog from the stadium
Photographer Ernesto Torres and I are in the middle of our second day of spending time with the Houston Dynamo soccer team here in Pachuca, Mexico.
Before heading to practice we spent some time down in the central part of Pachuca. Centro Historico, they call it.
The streets are cramped and congested as you might expect, but we've found the pace of life here a little slower than back home.
Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear put his guys through about a two-hour workout on the floor of Hidalgo Stadium. It is an impressive 30,000-seat stadium, which was re-furbished about three years ago. It's a little strange seeing the entire field surrounded by protective fencing topped off with barbed wire, but this stadium also includes two tiers of private and corporate suites.
I told the Dynamo players that the locals call this place "The Hurricane" because it gets so wild during home matches and they told me they feel like they'll be properly prepared for the onslaught of screaming and yelling.
A couple of the players, like midfielder Dwayne De Rosario, have played here before and he believes their experience in this stadium will help them stayed focused on the task at hand. A capacity crowd is expected for this match.
They not only love their futbol here, but the fans also get in free Thursday night. It could get really, really crazy.
That's it for now, but I'll talk about the affects of the altitude and more tomorrow. Also, you can check out our video blog.
