Thoughts from Astros Training Camp in Kissimmee

It was a sunny day in Central Florida as the Astros went through their second day of full squad workouts.
One of the most impressive performances of the day was turned in by right-handed pitcher Jason Jennings during live batting practice. It's not surprising that the pitchers are ahead of the hitters at this point in camp, but the recently acquired Jennings had all the hitters including slugger Carlos Lee reacting to his pitches with several ooooo's ...and ahhhhh's.

Speaking of Lee, about the only rap on him is his hit/strikeout ratio There's a feeling by many that he's susceptible to the curve ball but Astros hitting coach Sean Berry told me today that he doesn't think that's a problem and that actually he and Carlos talked at length about his hitting approch today and Berry told me,"Carlos actually feels very comfortable hitting the curve ball." Whatever the case Lee is definately an imposing figure in the batter's box and he has to be the biggest regular day player the Astros have had since first baseman Mike Ivie played first base in the early 80's. Some of you may say Glenn Davis but even though Davis enjoyed more success at the plate for the Astros I believe Lee is the biggest.

That's it for now .....gotta catch a flight back to Houston.
