For those of you reading my blog, I predicted the Colts would win the Super Bowl and they did it pretty much exactly how I said they would do it. With the weather in south Florida absolutely brutal, Peyton Manning understood the elements and knew his opponant. He is as good as anyone in the game today preparing and making adjustments. That's what he did to become the game's MVP. He controlled the ball and did just enough to secure the Indianapolis Colts first ever NFL Championship. The game wasn't exciting, in fact it was dull as dishwater but it was effective as the Colts shutdown the Bears running game when Chicago did get the ball.
When Devin Hester returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, I looked at Bears quarterback Rex Grossman on the sidelines and thought, I know you are excited to have the lead but I know you were ready to go out on the field to take your first snap in the most important contest in your career and now you have to wait awhile. That is a hard thing to accept and you know what, it happened to Grossman all game long. I think it affected him big time. He just couldn't get any rhythm and that's where you have to credit Peyton. The Bears sat back in mostly zones coverages and Manning picked them apart and controlled the clock.
The rain really kept the the game close but like I said prior to the action, Peyton would be the one hugging head coach Tony Dungy and walking away with the title. Something tells me it won't be his last.
