Just when I thought I had seen it all, now this. 39 yards at warp speed with amazing grace (although it wasn't a prayer) for the game winner against the Texans. Vince YOUNG is MAN among boys... like no other player I have ever seen. I can remember a few years back when he was playing for Madison High School. One of my former teammates for the Houston Oilers offensive lineman Conway Hayman, who was coaching locally, told me Young was the best athlete he had every seen. He said you can not believe the talent of this YOUNG player at Madison High School. I watched him do amazing things as he got on a roll in the high school playoffs. The Dome had never seen anything quite like him at such an YOUNG age. the offenses that were run in college. They were right!!! He was good enough to make up his own way of doing things and Horns head coach Mack Brown was smart enough to let this YOUNG stallion do it his way. I'll never forget being in the corner of the endzone at the Rose Bowl when Vince decided the national championship was his and he left USC defenders sprawler all over the field as he scored the game winner. The decision to bypass him in the NFL draft was a risk the Texans were willing to make. No one had ever seen anything quite like this YOUNG kid. How do you coach him? What kind of an offense do you run? Pro personel directors and scouts continued to message answers to those questions as the draft approached. In fact, the Titans were ready to pass on him until Owner Bud Adams mandated VY was the GUY he wanted. Tennessee was in a world of hurt earlier this season, bad decision after bad decision in the quarterback department until this YOUNG rookie took over. Since then it's what you would expect from a first year player with one exception. You can overlook the missed reads and botched calls when you are forever YOUNG in the dramatic plays department. That is what VINCE YOUNG is all about. |
