Okay, last winter after the Rose Bowl I told you the Texans should draft Vince Young but right about now .....I've really gotten tired of saying that. I hope Vince has a wonderful NFL career and wins a number of Super Bowl championships. I always enjoy seeing a hometown guy do well. I wish he'd be playing for the Texans but he's not so let's just sit back watch the Texans deal with the embarrasment they should be feeling and move on. What I'm really wondering about is what will happen to this Texans franchise ....which has reached it's all-time low ..... in the eyes of most of it's fans. There are so many problems with this organization that it appears that it will be a long, long time before the If you hold owner Bob McNair responsible for the current "sad-sack" state of affairs then you should. But you should also hold him responsible for us even having an NFL team to cheer for (and boo). I think the biggest mistake McNair made was when he hired General Manager Charley Casserly without seriously considering anyone else for that job. I understand that NFL officials highly recommended Casserly for the position ....but McNair should not have stopped there with his search. Casserly was so endeared with his first #1 pick David Carr that he convinced McNair that he should be given a contract extension during the last off-season. When new coach Gary Kubiak came on board the blueprint for the quarterback position ....unfortunately ... was already laid out. McNair should have fired Casserly the same day he fired Head Coach Dom Capers at the end of last season. His failure to do so .....cost the Texans plenty. I know McNair was concerned about losing his entire scouting department along with Casserly ....but he should have made the move. At last year's U.T. pro workout day Kubiak was thoroughly impressed with Young ...his abilities and his poise. Casserly wasn't saying much afterwards ...and the handwriting was already on the wall. Some within the Texans organization felt the team should sign Carr to a two year option and still draft Vince. It would have forced Carr to either improve in a hurry or watch Vince from the sidelines. So what lies ahead?? Mmore tough days on the football field I'm afraid. The division the Texans reside in is a tough one. Do you see them passing up the Colts, the Jaguars of the Titans anytime soon?? That's the problem. As the Texans continue to struggle everyone else in the division is strong and getting stronger. Sure Vince fans you'll get to see Vince in your home stadium once a year but the sad thing is ....this could have turned out sooooooo much better for our city. |
