For Texans...you can't be stupid and win

I have been saying all along... the Texans season really starts the third week of the regular season. Yes fans it started and it started on a sour note. I was just looking at the little things during the game with the Redskins and the local pro football team made some of the most insane mistakes during their loss. It used to drive me crazy when players would put themselves above the team. An example was the play of defensive lineman Thomas Johnson. He has to be hating life today after what he did in the game. Two personal foul penalties cost the Texans big time.

Both involved hitting Skins quarterback Mark Brunnell. It wasn't the first one that concerned me but the second one was inexcusable. The Texans were within 16 points in the fourth quarter when Washington back Rock Cartwright fumbled on a simple running play. Shantee Orr picked up the ball and rambled 77 yards for a touchdown but "Hold on Nellie." The play was called back because Johnson hit Brunnell about 75 yards away from where Orr crossed the goalline.
What was he thinking? How stupid can you get? It was obvious he was trying to take out personal frustrations on the opposing team for being manhandled the entire game. Is it you or the team? Sometimes players look for little cheap shots to retaliate, to get even, but end up putting everyone on their side in a deeper hole. There were many more dumb mistakes and miscues but cheap shots like that have to stop. The NFL is a hard league to compete in let alone win in. It takes maximum effort, excellent execution and heady play to be successful. Until that happens with this team, each Monday morning we'll continue to wish the current players were in a classroom being taught how to use their brains.
