There is a lot of hooting and hollering coming out of Norman, Oklahoma today after the Sooners were robbed of a victory in Oregon over the weekend. As shown repeatedly over the weekend, dispite having replay at their disposal, the referees blew the call on an on-sides kick late in the game. The Quack attack pounced and the Sooners headed back to Oklahoma feeling like they were had. Since this was a battle between two non-conference teams, who should have called the game? The announcers said it was a PAC-10 crew, which would figure since Oregon is a PAC-10 school. But in reality, the NCAA should never allow this to happen. I recall a UH game played against Louisiana Tech, where the Cougars got "home fielded" by the local refs. But the time to call foul is not after the game, but before. OU should have agreed to an impartial crew before heading West. Moreover, the coaches need to legislate rules to prevent situations like this in the first place. The win won't be changed, Oregon can crow, or quack if they prefer. Now OU needs to learn from the mistake. |
