September 25, 1986 holds sweet memories for many longtime Astros fans -- including this one.

The Astros were just one game away from clinching the division title -- only their second in history.

They decided to do it in style thanks to ace Mike Scott and his split finger fastball.

I was at the afternoon game right behind the third base line dugout when Scott threw a no-hitter against their archrivals, the San Francisco Giants.

Scott struck out 13 Giants and went on to win the Cy Young Award.

When the Astros got the final out, the crowd went crazy and nobody wanted to leave.

Reliever Charlie Kerfield and other Astros eventually came back onto the field in conehead caps and sprayed the crowd with champagne.

The win set up an NLCS showdown with the New York Mets which ended with a heartbreaking 16-inning loss in Game 6.

I was at that game, too. That was my first year in Houston and the year I became a lifelong Astros fan.
