Not-So-Perfect Parent: Teens and Make-Up

I remember being 5-years-old and playing in my mother's make-up drawer. I loved make-up. In fact, I still get a kick out of seeing if "Truly Toffee" beats "Forever Pink" in the lipstick shade contest.

I don't remember exactly when I was given the green light to leave the house with lip gloss - but I do know that there was a lot of grumbling about it from my father and older brother. My mother served as the mediator between me (purple eye-shadow and blue mascara) and my father (pinch your cheeks to make them rosy). The magazines didn't help - I would do anything to look like Brooke Shields or Elle McPherson.

So my question is this - when do you think it appropriate for girls to wear make-up? Who are their make-up role models? What if your daughter is into Goth make-up - or worse- 80's make-up.... Where do you draw the line? I'd love to get your feedback...
