Can gratitude be taught? My answer is a resounding YES! Kids today are in the "I WANT MORE" generation and feel slighted by not having the latest cell phone or the coolest IPOD. Parents buy-into this entitlement by ensuring that their children do not go without - that by having all of the cool fashions, gadgets and gizmos they purchase security and happiness. I was impressed when I learned about a little girl named Sami Fitzgerald. Sami witnessed her parents writing in a daily gratitude journal. She wanted one for herself to record all of her blessings. She searched with her mother in stores and online and could not find anything specifically for kids. So, at the age of 6, she decided to write a book. It's titled "Fish Sticks, Books and Blue Jeans", teaching kids to be thankful for everything (yes even Fish Sticks) everyday!" I applaud Sami - but I applaud Sami's parents even more. They taught her the benefit of gratitude and have probably made much more progress towards a secure, happy future than what any IPOD could offer. So the question is, how are you teaching gratitude to your kids? 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
Thank you Paige for your kind words. We are very proud of Sami and the journey she is part of. Children are our future and it is so important to remember that what we teach them tomorrow, they will pass onto their children in years to come. Be thankful each and everyday!
