Not-So-Perfect Parent: Off to a date with a mouse....

Paige

I am on my way to Disney World. I’ll say hi to Mickey and Minnie for you. Although I am not looking forward to standing in line with 1200 other kids, I am looking forward to eating mouse-shaped ice cream cones and being with my kids. I’ll let you know how it goes – so stay tuned….

Not-So-Perfect Parent: Bedtime Battles

3:32 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008 |
Paige

It continues. Bedtime has CONSISTENTLY been 8:00 for years – yet my kids groan and moan and beg for one more story, five more minutes of video games or just until the next commercial. I don’t know when this was up for debate? By the time bedtime rolls around for me – I feel like I have been hit by a truck, and I still have emails to answer, lunches to make, and mail to go through. When I give the “Final, and I mean Final, don’t Argu...

Not-So-Perfect Parent: Women Over 40

9:47 AM Fri, Jan 25, 2008 |
Paige

In case you missed it on 60 Minutes, this is what Andy Rooney thinks about women over 40:

"As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game , she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants ...

This was sent to me and I laughed out loud. It's a little long - but worth the read. Enjoy!

Not-So-Perfect Parent: Size Matters!

3:42 PM Wed, Jan 23, 2008 |
Paige

A friend of mine was getting her son ready for school and was surprised to see how short his jeans had become. “Wow! You have gotten so much taller!” she said. “We are going to need to move you up to a size 8.” “Well that makes sense, Mom” he replied. “I wore a size 7 when I was seven. Now that I'm eight, I need a size 8.” "Very True!" she replied.

Silence and then, “So Mom, does that mean you wear a size 40!”

Not-So-Perfect Parent: Puppet Hands

3:10 PM Sun, Jan 13, 2008 |
Paige

This morning, my youngest and I lay in bed and made puppets out of our hands. His right hand was named "Hunt" and his left hand was named "Hunter". They were twins. It's was before 7am when he woke me with his new friends. I had to introduce my version, but at that early hour, the best I could come up with was "Lefty" and "Righty".

Our new friends sang and danced and flew and dove and fought and tickled. It lasted for a good half-h...

Not-So-Perfect Parent: Rock Star

Paige

For all of you ten-year-old Guitar Hero groupies, I am here to say that my son has just written his first rock song! True, my son can not plan an instrument to save his life. Still, he does look cool holding the electric guitar that he got for Christmas that he has no clue how to play.
After reading the lyrics, I must say, IT ROCKS!!!

Check it out! (NOTE: {{{{{{{ refers to guitar solo)

Not-So-Perfect Parent: Dinner Time Quiz

2:49 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008 |
Paige

When we sit down for dinner, we often have a quiz. I use it as a distraction while my oldest tries to force down peas without puking. Colt is 8 and Luke is 4, so it’s sometimes a challenge coming up with questions for each. Last night’s quiz went something like this:

MOM: Colt, what is the capital of Nebraska?

COLT: Lincoln!

MOM: What about Oklahoma? What is the capital of Oklahoma?

COLT: Oklahoma City!

Not-So-Perfect Parent: New Year's Resolutions

11:31 AM Wed, Jan 02, 2008 |
Paige

It’s another New Year and once again, I get sucked into the whole resolution idea. I go into it with a great deal of enthusiasm – but then seem to loose ground sometime in February. The good news is that this blog allows me to actually write down my resolutions and then refer back throughout the year to see how it’s going. So, in no particular order, here are my New Year’s resolutions for 2008.

1. Be Bold
So many transitions...
