Not-So-Perfect Parent: Pillow Time

It’s amazing how creative kids can be when left to their own devices. They groaned when I turned off the electronics – but I was amazed at how they were able to come up with games to entertain themselves.

Having two boys, everything has to be physical and everything has the potential to be a weapon. For example, pillows (one of the few things they can throw in doors) took on magical freezing powers when striking their opponent. The victim would be forced to freeze for seven seconds and endure more abuse including tickles and dreaded kisses from little brother. That burned twenty minutes until a poorly aimed pillow knocked over the lamp and I finally had to intervene.

What’s encouraging is that kids are resourceful. They will find a way to be entertained. It’s so convenient to turn on the TV – yet, it does nothing for creativity or interaction. Sure, you may loose a few lamps in the process, but it is these moments that make the memories – not Sponge Bob reruns.
