Part Three: Plane Ride to Wisconsin
The next morning, we walked to the airport – thanks to an overnight stay at the Airport Hilton. The plane was even smaller than I imagined. So small, in fact, that not only was 6 ft 5” husband unable to stand-up straight, I felt like ducking when boarding. I started to get panicky – thinking about this little bitty plane carrying our entire family. The flight attendant announced that no in-flight refreshments would be served because she needed to remain seated for what the pilot expected to be a bumpy ride.

Panic started to turn to terror. I tried to convince myself that even if beverages were served, I couldn’t have wine at 8:00 in the morning – not in front of the children. But how was I going to keep my cool when turbulence hit? How would I keep my kids from seeing me shake and sweat. We took off and I held on. My kids were actually a nice distraction. They put their hands in the air like they were on a rollercoaster and my youngest yelled “Faster, Faster!” Thank God, the flight was only 38 minutes long. We landed and I chimed in as the kids cheered.
