The question was simple, “Which fast-food grilled chicken sandwich do you think is the best?” The debate had been ensuing among members of the Sport Department before the question was posed to me. Several of the sports guys stood awaiting my answer. I refused to name only one and they settled for my top three. The conversation went something like this: “Number one choice … Jack in the Box.” “Jack in the Box?” one colleague exclaimed, “I haven’t been there since I was seven!” “Number two choice,” I continued, “Burger King.” “Burger King?” another shouted, “Don’t you live in Fort Worth? Didn’t they close all the Burger Kings in Tarrant County?” Not to be discouraged, I persevered and offered my third choice, “Wendy’s!” I stated confidently. There was a collective groan. “Wendy’s is the worst! You can’t be serious!” With that, the challenge was set. A taste test would decide who, among the fast food giants, offered the best grilled chicken sandwich. A few days later, we sat at the conference room table. Six restaurants were represented and presented before a panel of prestigious judges – yours truly was present. This was a blind taste test with little debate since we all voted independently. At the end, the results were as followed: #1 Jack in the Box (told you so!) Chick-fil-et was supposed to be a contender, but one of the event organizers overlooked the sandwich when preparing the test. However, we all agreed, that it would not have ranked in the Top Three. In the end, Jack in the Box pulled out with a slight edge over Whataburger. Mickey D’s was dead last. With so many mysteries in our world, it’s a good day when one is resolved. I feel privileged to offer this public service and let our greater community know where they can satisfy the urge for a fast food grilled chicken sandwich. I will sleep well tonight. |
