If there was a popularity contest at my house, I would lose hands down. And frankly, I’m more than a little ticked off about it. Both of my boys fight over my husband’s attention. “Daddy, tuck me in!” “I want to ride in the car with Daddy!” “Daddy, sit next to me!” “I call being on Daddy’s team!” Last night was the worst when my youngest said, “I'm sorry Mommy, I gave all of my snuggles to Daddy!” Not that I am trying to throw a pity party, but I’m sick of being a distant second. Yes, it’s true, my husband will spend two-hours building a fort out of bed sheets and broomsticks and can swing them upside by their feet. Still, I can be fun! I can toss a football (sort-of) and wrestle on the floor (as long as they don’t pull my hair or elbow me in the boobs). I can’t help it that I’m not coordinated enough to ride skate board or have any interest in participating in a burping contest. Why can’t they value things like reading, or shopping, or playing board games? The truth is, as the only girl in our family, I am going to have to get cozy with my second place status and find other ways to connect. Tennis Anyone?? Anyone?? |
