Not-So-Perfect Parent: Home Alone

Home Alone! My children and my husband are gone for three days and I am flying solo. It’s a weird feeling going through the day not constantly checking my watch for the countdown to carpool. What’s even more exciting is that I am in possession of the remote control. My husband nor my children can force me to watch Blues Clues reruns on the Golf Channel. I am free!!!

Yes, it’s true. There are moments when I miss them. But, I firmly believe moms need a little bit of time to reset. The way I see it, the only way moms really get some R&R is if they are alone. Otherwise, “me time” is always trumped by a sick child, a needy husband, or a phone call from a mother-in-law.

So moms, when the stars align and you find yourself alone - whether it’s for an hour or a week – call your girlfriends, schedule a massage, and read that trashy novel. Your chance to savor the sweet taste of freedom will quickly end once obligations (in the form of husbands and children) re-enter the scene.
