I am considering sending my son off to his first overnight camp experience. I have really mixed feelings about this. My first camp experience was a nightmare. I remember being so homesick that I referred to it as Camp Iwannabehome. I would write my parents pathetic letters complaining about the food, the heat and my bunk mate who insisted on the bottom bunk because she still had occasional “accidents”. Still, I somehow survived it and even signed-up again the following year (only because Chris Clem was also going and I had a huge crush on him). Although each year got easier, I never had a camp experience in which I didn’t, at some point, want to go home. Everyday this week, Good Morning Texas is featuring a local camp. Tomorrow, I will be interviewing Toni Hooten from Camp El Tesoro. Tune in and take notes… Who knows, she may reveal a cure for homesickness that you can include in a care package! |
