Not-So-Perfect Parent: Fortune Cookie

In the darkest corner of my wallet, where old receipts and a stale piece of chewing gum lie, is a stash of fortunes that I have kept through the years. I love fortune cookies. Like most, I don’t care for the taste, however, I get a thrill every time I break one and unroll the fortune hidden inside. I began collecting them as I prepared my career change and contemplated pursuing my dream. Here are some of my favorites…

“Depart not from the path which faith has you assigned”

“You can have anything in life you want”

“Now is the time to try something new”

“You have an ambitious nature”

“Your road to glory will be rocky but fulfilling”

“Yes. Do it with confidence”

I know what you’re thinking… just like horoscopes and palm reading, the fortunes revealed can apply to most people. My response? Who Cares! When I was feeling lost and unsure of my future, the little white piece of paper provided a dose of motivation when I read…

“The seeds of an idea you planted long ago are about to blossom”

Today, I’m pursuing my dream and grateful for the various signs of confirmations I have received along the way.

Last night, we had Chinese food delivered. Now, as the Not-So-Perfect Parent, the fortune that my cookie revealed seemed particularly appropriate….

“Remember, being happy is not always being perfect”

Again, as your Mom, I'm sure you think that my comments are biased. However, my heart is touched by your sincerity and use of the English language. Thank you for sharing your gifts. MOM

And, as a friend, I'm sure that I am biased as well- but like you said, "who cares!"- love the way you think, Paige and like your sweet Mother says- for sharing your many gifts.....
