Not-So-Perfect Parent: Cooking Segment

I did my first cooking segment today. This is frightening on many levels. To begin with, putting me in a kitchen of any kind is a little scary. However, add a famous chef and live television, something is sure to go wrong.

It started off okay. I asked simple questions and got some expected answers. Not exciting, nothing fancy, just doing the basics to get me through my kitchen premier. It was when I actually “assisted” in the kitchen that things went a little south.

We were making fried banana splits. A fun dessert that you can make with your kids (as long as you keep them out of the hot grease and boiling chocolate sauce). He suggested that I scoop some ice cream and add a little whipped cream. Although the ice cream was melting, I managed to get it into the bowl without incident. When it was time for the whipped cream, I scooped a mountain of it and clumsily gloped it on top. It was not pretty.

However, the low point came when I said, “These berries look delicious. What do you call the black ones?” The chef looked confused and said, “They’re called Blackberries.”
